OFFENSIVE OPERATIONS, ARMORED CAVALRY TROOP<br />
184. General<br />
Section I. GENERAL<br />
a. The armored cavalry troop when conducting offensive operations<br />
may attack to accomplish its assigned mission. The troop<br />
may attack alone, with reinforcements, or as part of the squadron.<br />
Frequently the attack must be made from march column to obtain<br />
the maximum effect with the least delay.<br />

fundamentals of attack, techniques of employing tanks <strong>and</strong><br />
armored infantry, control measures, passage of lines, night attacks,<br />
<strong>and</strong> other offensive operations requiring additional considerations.<br />
185. General<br />
Section II. PREPARATION FOR THE ATTACK<br />
a. The troop comm<strong>and</strong>er receives his mission for the attack<br />
from the higher comm<strong>and</strong>er. In preparing for the attack, the<br />
troop comm<strong>and</strong>er alerts the troop by issuing a warning order,<br />
coordinates with adjacent <strong>and</strong> supporting units, plans <strong>and</strong> makes<br />
a reconnaissance, makes an estimate of the situation, formulates<br />
a plan of attack, <strong>and</strong> issues the order for the attack. He then<br />
checks the readiness of the troop to conduct the attack.<br />
b. The armored cavalry troop usually completes preparation<br />
for the attack in an assembly area designated either by the squad.<br />
ron comm<strong>and</strong>er or the troop comm<strong>and</strong>er. Here the troop refuels,<br />
performs maintenance, <strong>and</strong> resupplies prior to launching the<br />
attack.<br />
c. While the troop is in an assembly area preparing for the<br />
attack, the troop comm<strong>and</strong>er usually joins the squadron comm<strong>and</strong>er,<br />
or the comm<strong>and</strong>er of the unit to which attached, to receive<br />
the detailed operation order. He takes with him personnel<br />
needed to assist in planning the attack <strong>and</strong>, if necessary, a messenger.<br />
