Translation from the Maldivian language Dhivehi into English is included for 

institutions with only Dhivehi names. The only exception is ‘Majlis’ which is 

used in Part I and II without translation. ‘Majlis’ is the equivalent of the term 

‘legislature’.

The Delegation of European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives is pleased to 

be once more associated with the Who’s Who Maldives Directory and its effort 

to support productive cooperation between the Maldives and the international 

community. 

Acknowledging the very positive response to the previous edition of the directory, 

I have no doubt that this Who’s Who Maldives 2012/2013 edition will be equally 

well received. 

The EU established diplomatic relations with the Maldives in 1983, and has since 

then supported wide-ranging development interventions in the country, notably 

in the environment, health and social sectors. The EU hopes to strengthen its 

relations with the Maldives in the years ahead.

INTRODUCTION 


Purpose 

The Who’s Who Maldives has two purposes. First is to facilitate diplomatic, 

civic and commercial engagement with other countries. To this end, the Who’s 

Who Maldives is distributed to all accredited diplomatic missions and many 

national Chambers of Commerce around the world. Second is to acknowledge the 

accomplishments and influence of our fellow citizens, and the Raajje Foundation 

looks forward to including more individual profiles in future editions. 

Method 

The Who’s Who Maldives is divided into ‘Individual Profiles’ and ‘Institutional 

Contacts’. The individual profiles provide publicly available biographical 

information, including photographs and known political and commercial 

affiliations. The institutional contacts bring together the addresses and contact 

details of the principal government, public, media, and civil society organizations 

as well as corporate companies. 

Most individual profiles are updates from the previous Who’s Who Maldives 

edition with additional profiles obtained from official authorities and other 

public information sources. Inclusion for this edition was focused on senior 

political figures, including current and former Ministers, State Ministers, Deputy 

Ministers, Majlis Members, Senior Judges, heads of the statutory bodies, Maldivian 

ambassadors, as well as the Chairs and Chief Executive Officers of the largest 

companies in each of the main commercial sectors. All information is current as 

of 1 st November 2012. 

The Who’s Who Maldives franchise seeks to bring this information into one 

accessible directory and provide a platform that can be progressively expanded 

and developed.
