9.18.4 The street opens up at Horse Bridge where it turns sharply north,<br />

returning to Clay Street. This is also the access point to the mill<br />

complex and the enormity of the mill buildings is evident, although a<br />

couple of 19 th century, 2 storeys, presumably office buildings stand in<br />

the foreground. The mature trees that line the mill area’s western<br />

border with <strong>Soham</strong> Lode soften the immediate foreground outside the<br />

gates, however.<br />

9.18.5 The western half of Mill Corner, particularly on the northern returns to<br />

Clay Street has a more scattered settlement pattern with no<br />

distinguishable building line. The inner side of the ‘loop’ is<br />

predominantly modern with wide mixture of building styles, and also<br />

includes the small pumping station.<br />
