more open aspect with modern buildings set back slightly and, further<br />

south along the street, less significant and lower boundary walls.<br />

9.8.2 The street is predominantly residential, but the presence of the former<br />

brewery (now offices) and the former Billiard Room (now a residence)<br />

at the street’s intersection with Market Street, indicate the more<br />

commercial nature of the village at this point. The Billiard Room and<br />

the adjacent buildings form an attractive and varied building group,<br />

which complement Cowell Terrace on White Hart Lane. This group<br />

includes the Grade II Listed Nos.33 and 35, which are two of the very<br />

few thatched buildings in <strong>Soham</strong>.<br />

9.8.3 Views from the south end of Paddock Street, at its junction with White<br />

Hart Lane, are mixed with 1950s housing to the south, remnants of<br />

more traditional properties to the east and large mature trees to the<br />

north, behind the properties along the eastern side of Paddock Street.<br />

The western side of the street also has quite a mixed streetscape.<br />
