: Ranunculaeacea – buttercup family Buttercups, anemones, clematis and hellebores contain the irritant glycoside ranunculin. Upon hydrolysis in mucous epithelia & skin it releases protoanemonin that rapidly dimerizes to anemonin, a harmless compound found in dried materials.
