ORTHOTICS - E-THOTICS

Description

The E-thotic Ultimate is a heat mouldable orthotic with best practice design features. It promotes maximum

foot control and ultimate patient comfort. E-thotic Ultimate is made from a special blend of EVA foam. The

EVA is a copolymer foam made of ethylene and vinyl acetate. It also features an embedded top cover component,

high arch contour, inbuilt rear foot bisection and a lateral heel cup wall.

Firm Density is best used for constant use, repetitive activity and when increased correction to foot mechanics

is required.

Soft Density provides a softer support for foot and lower leg problems, including soft tissue accommodation

and when shock absorption is a high priority.

KASSEL THERAPEUTIC SHOE

Function

Diabetic wound care shoe.

Description

This shoe features enough room inside, enabling the patient to wear a larger dressing if necessary. The firm outer

material can be separated from the soft inner material and opening can be cut to relive pressure. The extra rigid

rocker sole can be re-ground, enabling harmonious rolling off as well as immobilization and relief of a lesion

by suppressing the flexion of the foot. The EVA insert (40 shore A) has a thickness of 2cm in the forefoot area.

Special pressure relief areas can be ground into the material. The cover material is suitable for diabetics. A

Forefoot Protective cap is available as an optional accessory.

Indications

Closed and open injuries (ulceration/perforating ulcer of the foot) caused by diabetes mellitus.

Rockport shoes are specifically engineered for fitness walking. OAPL stock a range of the lace up Rockport

shoes.

Features include an extended heel counter for maximum support, a light weight EVA sole to absorb impact and a

high density rubber outer sole for long wear. Internally, an Evazote foam foot cradle provides increased comfort

and support for the heel and arch.

These shoes are available in a wider fitting. Although they do not have the range of widths available in the extra

depth footwear, they are often a more cosmetically acceptable option for the less severely affected foot.

FOOTWEAR MODIFICATIONS

Footwear modifications are used when external control is indicated. Many options are available and can be

individually designed for specific conditions. Several examples are illustrated below.

Raises are provided to elevate the heel and/or sole for leg-length discrepancies. A variety of light weight durable

materials are available.

Heel Floats provide a broader base in order to support an unstable ankle. Wedges can be incorporated to correct

hind foot varus or valgus.

Thomas Heels are used when additional support is required for the medial longitudinal arch. This is an extension

on the medial side of the shoe and supports the shank of the shoe.

Indications

Function

To limit plantar flexion, to provide some heel stabilisation without inhibiting

dorsiflexion.

Description

A polypropylene posterior shell with proximal velcro closure. The cut-outs

incorporated in this design provide a gentle spring action and allow the heel to rest

comfortably in the shoe. Full length foot section and heel cut-out allows use as a

resting splint for bed.

DYNAMIC WALK AFO

Function

To provide subtalar inversion/eversion, dorsi/plantar flexion and transverse rotation

while providing dorsiflexion assist.

Description

Made from a lightweight mouldable carbon fibre composite material with an open

heel construction. This AFO is low profile and the high activity design allows for

running, walking and squatting without the need for straps and maintains it position

gait.

Indications

For children - Footdrop due to neuromuscular deficit, often associated with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy,

myelomeningocele, and post surgery complications. Ankle instabilities due to neuromuscular deficit or traumatic

WALKAIDE

Function

To counteract footdrop by producing dorsiflexion of the ankle during the swing phase of the gait. During a gait

cycle, the WalkAide stimulates the common peroneal nerve, which innervates the tibialis anterior and other

muscles that produce dorsiflexion of the ankle.

Description

The WalkAide is a battery-operated, single-channel electrical stimulator that can be used to address dropfoot

with functional electrical stimulation. WalkAide utilises a Tilt Sensor to control stimulation during normal gait. A

Hand Switch on the WalkLink is used by the clinician during setup to trigger stimulation while the Heel Sensor

collects additional data. The clinician uses the WalkAnalyst software on a laptop computer to program the Tilt

Sensor in the WalkAide. Use of the Tilt Sensor to trigger stimulation eliminates the need for external wires or

remote Heel Sensor during regular use.

Cerebrovascular accident, incomplete spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy.

Function

To remove weight from the heel and protect the foot from potential ulcers and/or loss of dorsiflexion range of

motion. Designed primarily for patients spending long periods of time in a recumbent position.

Description

The HealPro can improve clearance in the swing phase and promote neutral position during the stance for limited

ambulation. The external bootie can be used to cover the soles and toes when out of bed and removed for infection

control before the patient returns to bed. It features a soft CoolFoam liner that is washable. Dual foot and

Function

To provide a variable range of flexion and extension of the knee.

Description

Pinless ROM Hinge for ease of adjustment, flexion stops 10° increments, 0 - 120°,

extension stops 10° increments, 0 - 90°. Anti-tamper screw prevent patients from

accessing ROM adjustments. Metal uprights to allow contouring to patient’s limband

snap of adjustments on both proximal and distal uprights. Adjustable strap

carriers can then be placed over uprights leaving no exposed rough edges and

adjustable strap carriers allowing precise positioning of straps.

Indications

Post-operatively following ligament and fracture related surgery or when

2.1 CORSETS - PREFABRICATED

INTRODUCTION

Spinal Orthoses can be divided into two categories— corsets and rigid orthoses. They both perform the

following functions.

* Restrict motion.

* Reduce intradiscal pressure via an increase in intra-abdominal pressure.

* Remind the patient to maintain the spine in a position of rest.

Corsets are used to maintain posture, raise intra-abdominal pressure and partially restrict motion. Rigid

orthoses are used in more severe, long term or deteriorating conditions. A rigid orthosis is more effective

in limiting spinal motion and re-aligning the spine.

OAPL SACRO CINCH

Function

Reduces intradiscal pressure by increasing intra-abdominal pressure. Acts as a reminder to partially restrict motion.

Description

General Function

To produce and maintain a hyperextended posture. The weight is transferred from the vertebral bodies to the

posterior elements of the spine and flexion is restricted in the thoracolumbar area. The hyperextended posture

directed force through a thoracolumbar pad.

General Function

Cervical orthoses serve as reminders to restrict head and neck movement. They can also impose

forces to limit flexion, extension, rotation and lateral movement of the cervical spine and head.

Depending on design, they can partially unload the cervical spine by supporting a portion of the

Description

Consists of a light weight plastic frame lined with foam. Height adjustment

Description

The Civic Collar is shaped closely to the head. It is made from PVC and

closed cell foam so that it is lightweight and comfortable for the patient.

Adjustments can be made using the screws and the velcro straps can be

“snugged” up. The grey PVC may be heated gently and moulded to the

desired contour.

Indications

Post-surgical and post-trauma stabilisation of the cervical spine.

Description

The anterior section consists of a sternal plate and a mandibular shell connected by a height adjustable

aluminium upright with provision for a trachea tube. The posterior section comprises thoracic and occipital

shells again connected by a height adjustable aluminium upright. The anterior and posterior sections are held

firmly in place by padded shoulder and lateral chest straps. This orthosis has a removable washable foam lining

within the polyethylene shells.

Often a more comfortable option to the SOMI, however, difficult to fit without moving patient.

Function

To provide floor reaction control and dynamic assist for toddlers. New addition to the Toe Off Family.

Description

Carbon composite with anterior shell, lateral strut and an engineered footplate with open calcaneous. It is designed

to allow integration of your custom foot orthotic UCB or SMO to help control ground-up forces. It also features

an anterior shell to assist in the management of proximal deficits and improve proprioceptive response.

Indications

Spastic diplegia, low-tone crouch gait, spina bifida, idiopathic toe-walker with no midfoot collapse, muscle

dystrophy, gait deviations secondary to proprioceptive deficit.

PAEDIATRIC ANKLE FOOT ORTHOSIS

This specially designed range of polypropylene orthoses for children maintain

the foot and ankle in a neutral position restricting both plantar flexion and

dorsiflexion. Medial lateral stability is also achieved. Trim lines can be

adjusted to permit varying range of motion.

Function

To maintain the foot and ankle in a neutral position restricting both plantar

flexion and dorsiflexion. Anterior trim lines provide mediolateral stability and

some subtalar joint control.

Description

A polypropylene posterior shell with a velcro closure proximally. Often

requires adjustment with heat gun at time of fitting.

Indications

Flaccid foot drop, mild spasticity, postoperative application following

corrective surgery. Can be a useful assessment too. For long term application

and when a more intimate fit is required, a custom made A.F.O. is

recommended.

Description

Flexible inner liner of boot allows them to contour to the foot, providing a more intimate fit. It also provides

improved comfort and decreased slippage for smaller sizes.

The clear liner enables both parent and clinician to easily access any pressure areas and foot position. The shoes

incorporate heel relief and reduce pressure over the heel area. The sizing allows interchanging between JS and

Talipes Boots. The JS Boots have identical attachment components for the Denis Brown Bar

as the Markell Boots and Talipes Boots.

TAOS WALKER

Function

To provide an exercise/therapeutic aid for children with neuromotor impairments and to encourage upright hands

free standing or ambulation.

Description

The Taos has two components, and orthotic and a mobility base. The orthosis positions the child’s body to enable

proper standing and even gait patterns to occur. The wheeled mobility base provides a means to support the child

in a upright position. It features a “docking system” that allows the orthosis to securely mount to it.

SILIPOS GEL RANGE

Description

Silipos Gel’s Visco elastic properties allow it to move with the skin, absorbing shear

forces, pressure and friction while it gradually diffuses a medical grade mineral oil to

moisturise, soften and condition the skin. Additives including vitamins, antioxidants

and moisturisers have been added to the gel for specific therapeutic applications.

Silipos Gels are clear, non-toxic, hypo allergenic, dermatologically tested and antimicrobial.
