Members and chapters celebrate the founding of Zeta Tau Alpha on October 15 each year. The Founder’s day service offers remembrance; turquoise and gray ribbons worn under the badge show each member’s commitment to the founding ideals. Zeta Tau Alpha Women’s Fraternity was founded at Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia. Nine young women with a special friendship wanted to create some kind of club that would unite them forever. These nine women created a Greek fraternity that today has chapters in all parts of the United States and Canada. Today, ZTA has 238 links. The fraternity holds the only charter ever granted by a special act of the state legislature and is the first fraternity to be chartered in the state of Virginia. Zeta Tau Alpha was charted on Virginia Tech’s campus on April 29, 1972, making it one of Tech’s oldest sororities and Zeta’s 157th link. Virginia Tech Zetas take pride in working together to achieve common goals. Zetas are represented throughout all aspects of campus and community life with involvement in the Residence Hall Federation, High Techs, Student Alumni Association, Student Government Association, Relay For Life committee, club sports, and numerous academic and Greek honor societies, to name a few. ZTAs frequently socialize at campus events, football tailgates, sports games, and community service projects, as well as with other campus organizations. Success opens doors; friends open hearts. Whether you are looking for opportunities in leadership, scholastics, and service, or you just want to make new friends and have some laughs, you will find it in Zeta Tau Alpha.
