The early growth for delta Gamma was confined to southern women’s colleges. Within a few years, delta Gamma was established in other regions of the United States. delta Gamma was one of the seven charter members of the National Panhellenic Conference when the first inter-sorority meeting was held in Boston, Massachusetts in 1891. acaDeMics: GPA New Member Initiation Requirement: 2.6 GPA Active Membership Requirement: 2.4 The delta Rho chapter of the delta Gamma fraternity began as delta Rho Sorority. Six women of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University founded the sorority in the spring of 1966. delta Rho petitioned delta Gamma fraternity after Marsha Strickland, then the fraternity’s national president, visited in the winter of 1971. The Virginia Tech colony was chartered on October 16, 1971 as the 99th chapter of delta Gamma. delta Rho was the second chapter in Virginia to receive its charter. Our sisters come together from various backgrounds to form the diverse group of women that make up delta Gamma today. They unite over the common desire to form lasting friendships that will take them beyond their college days. Sisterhood offers the strength of a friend who will walk with you throughout life. The newly installed president of Miami University offered his support and assistance to six ambitious women who were interested in forming a sorority, thus giving Miami University its feminine counterpart to the three national fraternities that had been founded there. delta Zeta sorority was founded on October 24, 1902, and within the following 18 years, had enough members to be qualified for the National Panhellenic Conference. Its founders dedicated their lives to the realization of high ideals they selected as their personal goals and the goals of the sorority. They made delta Zeta a vital, growing organization, which has become a strong national sisterhood of more than 95,000 young women and 190 chapters representing colleges and universities across the United States. delta Zeta gave Virginia Tech its first sorority on campus. Since its local founding in 1971, delta Zeta keeps growing stronger. A delta Zeta is a woman who knows the importance of sisterhood. She finds strength in the 130 amazing sisters that stand by her side when she needs it the most. A delta Zeta knows she is creating friendships that will last far beyond her college years. She knows throughout the course of her years at Virginia Tech that she is forming bonds with her sisters. A delta Zeta knows she belongs to one of the most social sororities on campus, but she never loses sight of her academic integrity.
