Sigma Phi delta is an international professional and social engineering fraternity founded
at the University of Southern California on April 11, 1924. As “The Premier International
Fraternity of Engineers,” it is the only professional fraternity that draws its membership
exclusively from male engineering students at ABET-accredited colleges and universities.
Sigma Phi delta enjoys a close working relationship with its female counterpart, Alpha
Omega Epsilon Sorority. It is a relatively young fraternity and thus a small fraternity in
number of chapters and total membership, but remains well organized, and chapters are
carefully supervised by the national officers and by faculty and alumni advisors.
SPd is a new and original fraternity on the Virginia Tech campus, and it is striving to
become well established and accepted in both the engineering communities and the Greek
community alike.
Sigma Phi delta was organized to promote the advancement of the engineering profession;
to foster the advancement of Engineering Education; to instill a greater spirit of cooperation
among Engineering students and organizations; to inculcate in its members the highest
ideals of virtuous manhood, good citizenship, obedience to law, and brotherhood; and
to encourage excellence in scholarship.
