King Kukulele - Hollywood
The Barbwires - Sweden
If there ever was a genre with new bands filed under
“Soundtracks from 60´s” then The Barbwires sure could
be found there. If you add some of Jack Nitzsche and John
Barry’s magnificent sounds together with a shredding Fender
stratocaster and a pumping beat you´ll get the picture. For
17 years The Barbwires have been giving their audiences the
experience of a full orchestra with only a 3 person band! How
do they do it?
Following the masters of the past...The Barbwires tour with
a reel-to-reel tape machine. The band improvises around the
basic structure.

Having traveled the world on a uke and song, the King can attest that Tiki Oasis
is the best. We are honored to have the King back as our official Tiki Oasis
Emcee for the weekend.
King Kukulele, is a comedian, actor and ukuleleist with inexorable energy who
has performed around the world, singing hapa haole and novelty songs. Wearing
his signature Hawaiian shirt, straw hat, ersatz grass skirt and lei, he has
opened Hollywood premieres and performed at Disneyland, Universal Studios
and other venues. He composed a promotional song about tropical fruits and
fish for the Orange County Fair, as well as “I Don’t Eat Poop,” a song written for
the California Board of Public Health as part of a campaign to discourage the
spread of human waste at public beaches. The latter song was not used.

The Love Me Nots - Phoenix
The Love Me Nots are rooted in fuzz-and-Farfisa garage and punk. The quartet
formed in Phoenix in 2006 and feature the purrs and howls of singer-organist
Nicole Laurenne, the raunchy guitar work of Michael Johnny Walker, rock-solid
bass lines and vocal harmonies by Sophie O, and the furious pounding of
drummer Jay Lien. The DIY band has released four full-length albums, all
produced in Detroit by Jim Diamond (White Stripes, Electric Six, Dirtbombs). The
band is in regular rotation on XM/Sirius, has charted in the CMJ Top 100, has
been featured on syndicated radio, television, and notable compilations, and
was featured in a four-page cover story in Rolling Stone (France).

The Untouchables - Los Angeles
The Untouchables are a soul/mod revival band formed in 1981
as part of the same wave of American Ska that spawned No
Doubt. After a shaky start playing at parties, the integrated
septet were eventually booked at the O.N. Klub (known as the
On to regulars). The band had guaranteed the club that they
would pack the venue, and they did not disappoint. In middle
of that year, they released their first 7” single, copies of which
were snapped up by local mods. The Untouchables originally
played covers such as “We Ain’t Got Nothing Yet” (Blues
Magoos), “Whatcha Gonna Do About It” (Small Faces) and
“(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone” (Monkees) in addition to their
own songs. Late in 1982, the band began a stint as the house
band at the Roxy Theatre. Terry Ellsworth left the band in the
summer of 1983, at the height of the California mod revival.
Their second single, “The General,” became a minor local hit,
despite poor distribution. The band performed “The General”
in the 1984 comedy The Party Animal, and they appeared as a scooter gang in the movie Repo Man. In early
1984, they were signed to Stiff Records. The band also appeared in the 1984 film Surf II, performing “Dance
Beat”, and 1987’s No Man’s Land, performing “What’s Gone Wrong”.

The Lampshades - Hollywood
The Lampshades are hilarious Kate Flannery (aka Meredith from NBC’s THE
OFFICE) and very funny Scot Robinson (Anchorman) as America’s favorite dying
lounge act. The Lampshades is a night of original comedy and music you know
but not like you’ve ever heard it before. Smart and sharp-witted, the Lampshades
spin pop, rock and lounge into gold while they unravel their amusingly
tortured relationship on stage. A Hollywood stage favorite for over 10 years,
they’ve opened for Ed Helms, The Dan Band, Richard Cheese, and have been
featured at Aspen Comedy Fest, NY’s Joe’s Pub and an episode of Disney
Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place. This talented twosome have entertained
star-studded audiences from Mel Brooks to Will Ferrell to Pee Wee Herman with
their culty, character driven act.

The Exotics - Milwaukee
Milwaukee, Wisconsin is home to both the internationally
acclaimed 1966 spy bar, The Safe House, and The Exotics, purveyors
of spy and surf music since 1994. The Exotics have long been
associated with secret agent sounds, having written and recorded
songs such as “Spy’s Demise” named for the Safe House’s number
one drink and “Invaders” with its haunting spy guitar. The group
was even featured at a James Bond movie premier in Chicago. The
boys continue to make the sounds of international espionage a
part of their act with a forthcoming spy themed EP, especially for
Tiki Oasis. Bandleader Don Nelson is also a long time collector of
spy records, hosting his “Spy Spin” events around Milwaukee.

Los Venturas - Belgium
Los Venturas bring a warm, varied, powerful and danceable
instrumental live set, with just one purpose: throwing a

The Tikiyaki Orchestra is a musical experience unlike any

Truus performs from Ritualis - San Diego
Truus de Groot’s musical career spans over the last 3 decades. Born in
Eindhoven, The Netherlands she debuted as a chanteuse just at the beginning
of the Punk craze in 1976. Her meandering path eventually lead to her very
own take on Exotica, eventually releasing 3 CD’s in that genre. You can expect
the unexpected since improvisation runs through her veins as well the use of

Since 1987, retro-tainer & stunt dancer Marina (Malia) Duran-Anderson

Her enthusiasm for the preservation of Retro-Aquatic

The Art of Stamping with Artist Eric October
Stamping, in various forms, is a craft that has been utilized by many cultures,
notably by Polynesians in the creation of Tapa. Discover the techniques that
can transform an ordinary piece of foamboard into an extraordinary tool
for creating art in a modern take on the art of Tapa. Participants will create
stamps, and then apply them to decorate and personalize your own tote bag.
Polynesian Pop is the emphasis of the style being demonstrated, and students
are also encouraged to bring along t-shirts or other items that they feel could
use a tiki touch (natural fabrics work best). Tools and materials provided.
Cutting instruments will be used, and participation is at attendees’ own risk.

Eric October graduated from UCLA with a BA in Fine Art, but his art career started out scribbling on his bedroom
walls as a kid (sadly, his parents weren’t appreciative art critics of those early frescos). Undaunted, he carried
on, and his work blurs the line between art and craft, as he attempts to keep up with the visions in his feverish
brain, using whatever media is at hand, from paint, colored pencils, resin and automobile upholstery to cookie
dough and ceramics. October has exhibited in galleries across the country.

Richard Boccato was born in Florence, Italy and raised in Brooklyn, New York.
From 2005-2009 he was employed as a bartender at Little Branch and Milk &
Honey, respectively. In May of 2009 Boccato and Sasha Petraske swung the
doors of Dutch Kills; a cocktail saloon in Long Island City, Queens where block
ice has been hand-cut down to size for cocktails directly behind the bar since
day one. In the Spring of 2010, Boccato opened PKNY aka “Painkiller”, a New
York City Tiki Bar. In December 2010, Boccato teamed up with Brooklyn’s finest
cocktail crew to open Weather Up Tribeca in downtown Manhattan; which is
the first bar in the world to feature in-house block ice production with its own
Clinebell CB300X2D carving block ice making machine, yielding 600 pounds
of crystal-clear ice every two-to-three day cycle. In the Spring of 2011,
Boccato and his Dutch Kills colleagues chose to further their Clinebell
fascination when they brought forth Hundredweight, a block ice production
and delivery service for cocktail bars and beyond. In May of 2012, Boccato and
his Weather Up partners expanded their horizons to Austin, Texas.

his father’s stories, but stories about Neil Young, Frank Zappa, the music business,

Jochen Hirschfeld Jochen Hirschfeld spent
his childhood in South America; in the late
70s in Quito, Ecuador, the local TV station
aired black and white adventure movies
from the US, along with all kinds of stuff
from the 50s and 60s. He grew up with
the sound and vision of the Rat Pack on a
South American adventure holiday. As soon
as he switched off the TV to play outside,
the adventure just seamlessly continued in
the exciting surroundings of Quito. His family
returned to cold Germany in the 80s and
this little explorer heart fell into shock. The
only cure: Filmmaking, Storytelling...and Tiki.

How it all began: Unpublished Images from the Golden Days of
Tiki Archeology with Sven Kirsten
In this very special symposium Sven will dig deeply into his archive to share
previously un-published 35mm slide images of now lost Tiki temples like the
Kahiki, “The Tikis” theme park and Tikied-out apartment complexes up and
down the West coast, taken as early as 1992 to the 2000s. If you miss the
Saturday booksigning, Sven will happily sign your copy of Book of Tiki and Tiki
Modern after his presentation.

Director Jonathan Joffe earned a national broadcast license on Canada’s
Space Channel with his first film. He has gone on to write and direct a slate of
short films which have won over 20 awards on the independent festival circuit.
He has directed over a dozen short films, the 3-part travel documentary Have
Guide Will Travel for Canada’s Access Television, and the award-winning sitcom
Desiciti. Joffe is also a prolific screenwriter, having penned 12 feature length
screenplays. The Burlesque Assassins is Joffe’s first feature which he spent 2
years developing with the international burlesque community.

Meghan Mayhem is The Pacific Island Pin-up who originally hails from Honolulu,

Scott Mabbutt (aka Joe Banks) is an independant film-maker and frequent
collaborator with Marty Lush. Scott directed two movies featuring “The

co-host to the two-part “Music of James Bond”. Currently, the two are developing a
feature “documentary”, based on the life of Marty Lush entitled, “The Lush

Evan Tritt aka DJ Xerox is the curator/host of the long running Copycat Cover
Song Night at Otto’s Shrunken Head in New York City. With Ursula 1000, he also
