♦• How easy is it for girls or families to decide not to go for circumcision?<br />

♦• Where does <strong>the</strong> pressure come from?<br />

♦• Is <strong>the</strong>re more or less pressure nowadays?<br />

2. Why did you make <strong>the</strong> decision that you did? (not to undergo circumcision / not to<br />

have your daughters circumcised, to oppose FGM)<br />

Probe for:<br />

♦• Was it on medical grounds, or rights-based, or o<strong>the</strong>r reasons?<br />

♦• Who did you talk to?<br />

♦• Were you alone or supported by o<strong>the</strong>r people? Who supported you?<br />

♦• Has anyone opposed you?<br />

3. Who knows about your decision?<br />

Probe for:<br />

♦• Is it secret or public?If secret - Why? What fears do you have?<br />

♦• If public – Why? What impact has this had? How has / will your decision <strong>in</strong>fluence<br />
