1. Generally how does <strong>the</strong> community here view female circumcision, what mean<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

value and importance is attached to <strong>the</strong> practice?<br />

Probe for:<br />

♦• How prevalent is <strong>the</strong> practice?<br />

♦• In your understand<strong>in</strong>g, why do some FAMILIES choose to circumcise <strong>the</strong>ir girls while<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs decide not to circumcise <strong>the</strong>m?<br />

♦• In your understand<strong>in</strong>g, why do some GIRLS choose to be circumcised and o<strong>the</strong>rs decide<br />

not to be circumcised?<br />

♦• From your general observation, what k<strong>in</strong>d of people support and encourage <strong>the</strong> practice<br />

and what k<strong>in</strong>d of people discourage or don’t practice female circumcision?<br />

2. What are <strong>the</strong> procedures and <strong>practices</strong> associated with female circumcision?<br />
