<strong>The</strong> floor is strewn with skulls and bones <strong>of</strong><br />

both humans and large animals.<br />

Zath attacks any creature which dares<br />

enter its abode. Note that <strong>the</strong> one-way<br />

doors to <strong>the</strong> north (too small for Zath) are<br />

hidden by webs. In <strong>the</strong> middle <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

room is a 20 feet wide and 100 feet deep<br />

pit, covered with webs, that connects<br />

with <strong>the</strong> caverns beneath Area 7. If Zath is<br />

severely damaged, <strong>the</strong> spider-god<br />

retreats down into <strong>the</strong> pit.<br />

6) In this area <strong>of</strong> 30 feet wide corridor<br />

<strong>the</strong>re are five barred and locked cells<br />

holding eleven slave sacrifices, and on<br />

<strong>the</strong> west wall are six cubicles wherein<br />

dwell <strong>the</strong> guards who watch over <strong>the</strong>se<br />

prisoners, eight ghoulish creatures whose<br />

bodies swarm with tiny spiders (see <strong>the</strong><br />

New Monsters appendix).<br />

7) Secret door (Search DC 30) sinks to<br />

allow passage along a 4 feet wide corridor<br />

and steps down to a 10 feet wide<br />

tunnel to Area 20 <strong>the</strong>reafter, passing a<br />

series <strong>of</strong> mazelike caverns that teem with<br />

<strong>the</strong> numerous <strong>of</strong>fspring <strong>of</strong> Zath.<br />

Level #2:<br />

1)-3) Each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se simple and spartan<br />

rooms is a barracks for four temple guards.<br />

4)-7) Each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se rooms quarters one<br />

senior priest. <strong>The</strong> rooms are richly carpeted,<br />

tapestried, and furnished with s<strong>of</strong>t<br />

couch, inlaid wood table, padded chairs,<br />

etc.<br />

8)-11) <strong>The</strong>se four rooms serve as sleepingquarters<br />

for twelve acolytes, three per<br />

room. <strong>The</strong> rooms are ra<strong>the</strong>r plain and<br />

functional.<br />

12) This room quarters two elite temple<br />

guards who act as guard commanders.<br />

<strong>The</strong> area is richly furnished, and <strong>the</strong> room<br />

to <strong>the</strong> west is likewise well appointed, with<br />

two s<strong>of</strong>t couches covered with silks. <strong>The</strong><br />

small closet <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> sleeping area is an<br />

arsenal which contains 30 crossbows, 30<br />

cases <strong>of</strong> bolts, and temple spider venom<br />

sufficient for 50 applications.<br />

13) <strong>The</strong> open areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> level have<br />

narrow tables and benches along <strong>the</strong><br />

walls. At this point <strong>the</strong>re are always two<br />

elite temple guards on alert, as only<br />

acolytes, priests and commanders <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

guard are permitted to go above.<br />

Level #3:<br />

This level is reserved for <strong>the</strong> senior priests <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Fane and <strong>the</strong>ir favored acolytes. All<br />

rooms are richly carpeted and hung with<br />

tapestries.<br />

1) Quarters for four acolytes. <strong>The</strong>y assist in<br />

<strong>the</strong> more common rituals but are not<br />

permitted to venture into <strong>the</strong> lower (dungeon)<br />

level.<br />

2) Chamber <strong>of</strong> one senior priest.<br />

3) Suite <strong>of</strong> rooms belonging to one senior<br />

priest.<br />

4) This area is where <strong>the</strong> priests dine and<br />

generally enjoy <strong>the</strong>mselves. <strong>The</strong>re are<br />

numerous couches, small tables, cushions,<br />

etc. scattered about. <strong>The</strong>re are eight gold<br />

services (plate, bowl, flagon, utensils), four<br />

sets <strong>of</strong> which are worth 100 sp each, two<br />

sets are worth 300 sp each, and two sets<br />

are worth 500 sp each. All are set with<br />

small gems.<br />
