Materials such as the conductive carbon paste and processes like TCO layer laser scribing have been<br />

tuned for best performance in view of a test production of 30 x 30 cm sized monolithic dye solar<br />

modules (as demonstrators).<br />

Thanks to the inhouse SEM capacity, the stacking of the active layers was analysed, such as the<br />

nano-TiO2, the ZrO2 spacer and both carbon layers (with Pt-catalyst and conductive graphite) making<br />

up the monolithic test cell.<br />

The interface between the TiO2<br />

layer composed of 15 nm sized<br />

anatase crystals and the zirconia<br />

layer is clearly visible in the SEM<br />

picture.<br />

The flaky conductive graphite is<br />

stacked on top of the 80 nm ø<br />

zirconia particles. Most of the<br />

observed layer delamination<br />

occurred and this interface,<br />

required a reformulation of the<br />

carbon paste having more<br />

crosslinking agents to increase<br />

the adhesion.<br />
