Figure 2: Discrepancies of reported PMAX data at STC plotted for each test sample.
Note: One of the EFG modules resulted to have some contact problems, resulting in a bad reproducibility of the
measurements.
Based on the findings of this round-robin test, a second round-robin with new test samples shall be
launched in 2008 to monitor improvements achieved in the project. Each laboratory will use the experience
of the first round-robin to upgrade or correct their equipment or procedures. The ISAAC laboratory
will introduce some new equipment, which will be presented within the next annual report.
The next round-robin test will include as well indoor performance measurements at low irradiance and
different module temperatures, insofar as such information is required for energy rating. The final aim
of the project is to establish the comparability of a PMAX of ±1% between the test laboratories.
Thin Film Technology Round Robin
Table 3 shows the thin film modules investigated within the first round-robin. Most of the module technologies
available on the market were included, ranging from single to multi-junction devices. Two
modules of each type were circulated. Both had to go through the general test sequence described in
figure 3. One of these two underwent some additional characterisation tests like e.g. temperature and
irradiance coefficient measurements, sweep and pre-conditioning tests.
