The Pen<br />

by Vivienne Lazib<br />

It bleeds out,<br />

a vein of ink, spreading like fire.<br />

Free to express what bursts from <strong>its</strong> explosive mind.<br />

No ropes or chains could restrain th<strong>is</strong> beast,<br />

for <strong>its</strong> strength <strong>is</strong> overwhelming.<br />

Some say true power lies in <strong>the</strong> tongue,<br />

but who <strong>is</strong> to question <strong>the</strong> power that undulating scars leave behind?<br />

Silence <strong>is</strong> golden.<br />

In darkness <strong>the</strong> force <strong>is</strong> insignifi<strong>can</strong>t,<br />

but it never dies.<br />

When gleaming radiance blazes upon it again,<br />

<strong>its</strong> energy <strong>is</strong> revived.<br />

The pen<br />

preserves <strong>the</strong> past,<br />

permanently impressing it onto <strong>the</strong> present,<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>wonderful</strong> <strong>bird</strong> Ardingly College 2010<br />

continuing <strong>the</strong> present to <strong>the</strong> future .<br />
