The State Museum is showing the unique spatial theater
twice a day, except Mondays.
Tuesdays – Sunday at 11.30 and 14.30
Additional performances for groups and school classes:
Tuesdays – Fridays at 8.45 and 17.00
Saturdays and Sundays at 17.00
Duration 45 min.
the media theatre can be viewed in an english, French, or
dutch version (for a maximum of 48 persons per showing).
Tickets are available before the performance at the Tourist
Information Trier, on the Internet at www.ticket-regional.de
and at all affiliated advanced sales agencies such as
Kartenvorverkauf Trier, Cathedral Information, Trier Arena,
Press Point. The Trier Landesmuseum sells tickets only at the
museum admission desk.
Groups can make a reservation at the Tourist Information
Centre: tel: (+49) 0651/97808-17/-18 or -19.
Individual visitors can join a group which has a booked special
showing outside museum opening hours if space is available.
An up-to-date listing of these open special showings is

The media theatre is recommended for school classes starting
at the fifth school year.

the plot
Broken hearted, Gaius Albinius Asper mourns at the grave
of his beloved wife Secundia before the gates of the Roman
city Trier. When the god Mercury appears and offers to take
him into the shadowy realm of the dead, he doesn’t hesitate
for long. Accompanied by the sharp-witted god, Asper
meets figures from Roman Trier, charioteers, wine dealers,
vain matrons and many others. They live as shades in their
own realm and await there the decision of the gods. Meanwhile,
Mercury, for whom human emotion is totally foreign,
has only one thing in mind: to make the heavy-hearted
Asper forget his wife. Will Asper be able to resist the countless
temptations in the realm of the shades?
the “media theatre”
“In the Realm of the Shadows” is a museum experience in a
new dimension never seen before. Floor-to-ceiling surround
projections onto tall ancient burial monuments sweet the
viewer directly into the thrilling adventure in Roman Trier. In
a combination of authentic original exhibits and animated
film sequences, speech and music, a poetic play evolves,
awakening ancient bas reliefs to life. The breath-taking 45minute
showing is absolutely unique.
the creation
This spectacle was developed by the Trier Landesmuseum
together with internationally known agencies and implemented
with up-to-date technology and artistic craft. The
script writing by well-known authors was supported by
archaeologists and historians from the museum.
The voices of the speakers give the central characters of
Mercury and Albinius Asper a truly special character.
Visitors fascinated by the journey into the “Realm of Shadows”.
