represents St. Paul standing beside the<br />

Athenian altar to the " unknown God,"<br />

and St. Thomas carrying a carpenter's<br />

square. The third window in the north<br />

aisle <strong>com</strong>memorates John Gaitskell Churton.<br />

This and the one in the south aisle<br />

are symbolic<br />

Virtues. The<br />

representations of<br />

figures of Justice<br />

the<br />

and<br />

Humility, which are in the south aisle, are<br />

said to be among the most perfect designs<br />

ever executed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones.<br />

St. Oswald's, Backford.<br />

The best windows in this church are by<br />

Frampton. Among these may be<br />

specially noted the single-light window in<br />

the south aisle picturing Our Lord as the<br />

Good Shepherd ; the two-light window in<br />

the same aisle, near the chancel, erected<br />

by Elizabeth Blomfield, of Mollington<br />

Hall, in memory of her sister ; and the east<br />

window in the south aisle, a single light<br />

picturing the Resurrection.<br />

St. Mary's, Eastham.<br />

In this church is to be seen Kempe's<br />

best work, and of this the finest constitutes<br />
