The note to II Chron. xv. 16
again has a political bias. The verse in
the Authorised Version reads :
" And also
concerning Maachah the mother of Asa
the king, he removed her from being
queen because she had made an idol in a
grove : and Asa cut down her idol, and
stamped it, and burnt it at the brook
Kedron," and to this the editors have
naively added the comment *' Herein he
shewed that he lacked zeale for she ought
to have died," that is to say, King Asa
should have murdered her. It was this
feeling that culminated in the execution
of Charles I. The Genevan Bible contains
also four pages of an almanac, with
woodcuts over each month illustrating the
seasons, as follows :—
