QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK
Q. Would St Patrick have any special message if he were here
in Ireland today?
A. He would be happy to see so many people faithfully striving to
live Christian lives yet sad to see the drift towards violent crime,
the materialism which dims the eye of conscience, the abuse of
drugs and alcohol and the weakening of faith as a source of light
and strength in life.
During this Year of Faith he would encourage each one to be a
missionary just as he was, dedicated to God in mind and action,
working to bring the beautiful Christian message and ideals to all
people.
Q. What is so special about palm branches?
A. Palm branches were waved as a sign of welcoming a king or
victorious general. Think of the reception of All Ireland winners.
Early Christians spoke of martyrs receiving the palm of victory as
they shared in the triumph of Christ over death. Taking a piece
of palm home today is a reminder that this week we celebrate the
death of Jesus and his victorious resurrection. Keep the palm in
special place such as attached to a crucifix, a picture of the Lord or a
holy water font. Throughout the year let the palm renew your hope
as you remember that the victorious Christ is our champion.

PASSOVER MEAL
The parish Passover Meal will be held this year in the Community Centre, Lislea, on Tuesday 26 March at
8.00pm. This is a very fitting preparation for the rest of the Holy Week celebrations. All are welcome. To
help those preparing the meal, please put your name on the sheet at the back of the church or in the porch.

EASTER VIGIL CEREMONY AND DAWN MASS
Following on the successful Easter Vigil ceremony at sunrise last year, the parish pastoral council have endorsed
a similar celebration this year in Carrickcruppen. The idea is to make it more like a vigil, to celebrate new
life, the life of the Risen Christ. It will begin in darkness and end in full light - to symbolise the movement
from death to life. The venue will be outdoors (weather permitting) in the cemetery in Carrickcruppen. It will
begin at 6.00am with the lighting of a large Easter fire, proceed through sunrise and end with the celebration
of Mass in full light on Easter morning. It will be for everyone in the parish, or further afield, who want to
experience more fully the resurrection of Christ. For those who will not chance it, there will be another Easter
Vigil in Bessbrook at 8.30pm on Holy Saturday night.

Finding a balance to assist your life of prayer - Led by Denis Bradley, in Drumcree Pastoral Centre,
