Watch, July 1985; Violations of the Laws of War by Both Sides in
Nicaragua: 1981-1985, Americas Watch, March 1985. The former is a
detailed critique of Reagan Administration lies concerning Nicaragua. On
Administration lies, see also In Contempt of Congress and the bipartisan
congressional report “U.S. Aid to El Salvador,” discussing the record of
the Administration in providing “insufficient, misleading and in some
cases false information to Congress.” Its lies to the public have become
notorious.

1984), but not elsewhere, to my knowledge. For more on the

Segev, 1949 (Domino, Jerusalem, 1984; Hebrew). This and other recent
work based on newly available archival material will substantially revise
the conventional picture.

that contrary to what Ehrlich states, “it isn’t true that no one knew about
what was going on,” citing protests by tiny left-wing groups and writers
at the time, adding that others preferred not to disturb the victory
