client state and even “political warfare,” a special case of “aggression.” 9<br />

Thus, political activity by <strong>the</strong> natives <strong>in</strong> a country we occupy is<br />

aggression aga<strong>in</strong>st us, justify<strong>in</strong>g military action <strong>in</strong> self-defense. Defense<br />

aga<strong>in</strong>st “<strong>in</strong>ternal aggression,” ano<strong>the</strong>r concept that Orwell would have<br />

admired, is a major <strong>the</strong>me of US history, from its orig<strong>in</strong>s until today.
