At Baselworld 2008, Glycine presents novelties at a high level: lightweight AIRMAN 7 

models made from titanium and carbon fibre, the AIRMAN Chrono 08 as well as the 

diver watch LAGUNARE Certified Chronometer 3000. 

AIRMAN 7: big lightweights 

They are big, the AIRMAN 7 models by Glycine – 

very big. Three independent movements combined 

in one watch need their space. Glycine’s new 

watches prove that largeness does not necessarily 

have to mean a lot of weight. Thanks to the high 

quality materials titanium and carbon fibre, the 

round AIRMAN 7 and the square AIRMAN 7 Plaza 

Mayor weigh about a quarter to a third less than 

their predecessors. The case of the four new 

models is made of the very sturdy, lightweight and 

corrosion-resistant titanium. Besides the metallic 

satin finished, untreated titanium case, Glycine also presents two black models treated with 

Diamond-Like-Carbon (DLC). The black matt, diamond-like carbon coating not only looks very 

nice but also increases extreme durability. Because DLC – which is also used for manufacturing 

surgical instruments – is a good seven times harder than steel. 

Weight is also reduced by the casing-ring: for the AIRMAN 7 Plaza Mayor, it is also made of 

titanium. For the round AIRMAN 7, it is made of carbon fibre. This high class material, also 

called “black gold”, gives the watch a very special, structured look. 

Along with the materials and weight, Katherina Brechbühler also changed the design – and let 

herself be lead by the principle of reduction. Only one hand on each of the small dials shows the 

second and third time zones. Along with the lines on the dials, the new visual appearance is that

of an instrument panel. “It is the most attractive way to wear three watches simultaneously on 

your wrist,” says Katherina Brechbühler.

AIRMAN Chrono 08: the perfect world time watch 

This watch leaves nothing to be desired: the 

AIRMAN Chrono 08 displays three time zones, 

has an integrated chronograph – and looks 

fantastic. Because of its functionality, it is also 

visually appealing. For example, the 24-hour 

rotating bezel which is a novelty for Glycine as it 

lies under the sapphire glass: it is separated into 

a lower white part for the day and an upper black 

part for the night. Thanks to the protection provided by the crystal, it was possible to use 

luminous material, like on the dial. This makes the third time zone luminescent, too. The rotating 

bezel can be adjusted with the screw down crown at 8 o’clock. 

The trapezoidal date display and hands are based on the first Airman watches from the 50’s by 

Glycine. Few red colour elements highlight certain functions; for example, the hands for the 

second and third time zones, the corresponding 24-hour scale on the dial, as well as the tip of 

the stop second. The minute counter is found at 12 o’clock and the hour counter at 6 o’clock. 

The AIRMAN Chrono 08 is also available as a strictly 24-hour watch with two time zones.

LAGUNARE Certified Chronometer 3000: dive into the depths 

Beautiful, strong and very safe is a short description of the 

extraordinary diver watch LAGUNARE LCC 3000. Thanks to 

its elaborately designed case, it is water-resistant up to 1000 

metres. The high class, refined, COSC-certified movement is 

protected by a coat of soft iron, giving the watch enormous 

resistance against magnetic fields – much stronger than 

official standards for antimagnetic watches require. The extra 

strong sapphire glass is domed. 

The handling of the LCC 3000 when diving is also very 

dependable and safe thanks to its functionality: the 

unidirectional, rotating lockable diver’s bezel is marked with clear relief numbers and the deep 

grooves provide a good grip. The mechanism at 2 o’clock allows the diver to block or release 

the rotating bezel. The main crown at 3 o’clock is protected by a hinge- operated flap. Located 

in the side of the case at 9 o’clock is the automatic helium valve, while the manual helium valve 

is operated by the crown at 4 o’clock. 

The LCC 3000 is unmistakably a LAGUNARE – also in its aesthetics. “It combines all the virtues 

of the diver watch models of the last few years,” says Katherina Brechbühler. The watch will be 

put on the market in a limited edition of 300.

Glycine Watch SA – Tradition since 1914 

The watch company Glycine Watch SA in Biel is renowned for high-quality watches with large 

diameters. The company offers a wide range of mechanical aviator watches, chronographs 

and diving watches and has sales outlets in over 30 countries. Since being founded in 1914 

by Eugène Meylan, Glycine has remained a Swiss family company, which today is owned by 

Katherina Brechbühler, who is also responsible for design, and co-managed by her and her 

father Hans Brechbühler. In 1938, Glycine was one of the first 29 exhibitors at the Basel trade 

fair and has been present at every fair since then.
