SEA RUN BROWNS IN PATAGONIAN ARGENTINA

browns, in the Patagonian Tundra. This
is the real McCoy. Kau Tapen (‘house of
fishing’ in the Ona language) is the original
fishing lodge in Tierra del Fuego and the
standard of elegance by which other lodges
are measured.
Mavungana is proud to be the exclusive
agents for the Nervous Waters portfolio of
lodges on the Rio Grande. We will be hosting
a team of 9 rods, in prime season, onto
the Rio Grande in 2012, and base ourselves
at this exquisite lodge. Mavungana have
over 10 years of experience fishing and
guiding on these Patagonian rivers.

open to all South African Residents and all
material must be fly fishing related but can
be footage taken fly fishing anywhere in the
world.
There are heaps of prizes up for grabs,
including winner’s prizes, prizes for the first
3 entries received and lucky draw prizes!
Winning sequences shall be uploaded to
YOUTUBE. This event, the first of its kind in
South Africa, will give budding film makers
and the ordinary fly fisherman a chance to
showcase their talents, adventures or something
amazing they have captured whilst

The depths of the Amazon Jungle are
a truly breathtaking spectacle, one of
the last untouched parts of the planet.
River Plate Amazon Outfitters operates
throughout the 16 million sq Ha of the
Amazon Jungle, their flagship operation
tows shallow drafting airconditioned cabins
throughout a dozen river systems and sets
up camp on white sandy beaches depending
upon time of year and water levels.
This unique concept means that anglers are
constantly exploring un-fished waters and
the camps are moving every week or so.
This is quite obviously a huge advantage
over their opposition lodges or house boat
operators that can only access navigable
waterways and water within a limited range.

Depending upon water height we fish the
Itapara River, a tributary of the Branco that
flows South into the Negro and only then
into the Amazon. Not unlike the Zambezi
the Amazon and its tributaries flood into the
surrounding forest, providing ideal refuge
for growing baitfish. The peacocks can be
heard smashing their prey deep in amongst
the mangrove like root wads.
Casts have to be very accurate, at times
bouncing the flies off the water surface,
skidding them around stumps and into
likely looking gaps amongst the timber.
Like many commercial fly fishing operations
the weeks fishing is rated and sold on the
number of fish landed and guides kept an
accurate running total. In 2010 our team
enjoyed superb fish up to 22lbs on fly, and a
total of 994 fish for 8 rods in their week.
