Vital Signs Tags Along on Italian Excursion
Accounts Payable Coordinators Sue Nelson and Linda Kohrs recently ventured
to Italy for a week in Rome, and brought a copy of Vital Signs along for the trip. They
toured the Vatican Museum and St. Peter’s Basilica, saw Trevi Fountain, and even
spotted the Pope. “He came down the street of our hotel, and we were arm’s length
from him,” Sue says. “We also went in the Pantheon, and it was awesome!” Before
they left, they mailed themselves postcards from the Vatican post office so a special
souvenir arrived when they returned.

Tune in to the sixth annual Champions for Children Radiothon from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday and Friday, March 10-11. This year’s Radiothon, which is presented by Wendy’s,
will be broadcast live on both B98.5 and Alice 107.7 DJs from both stations will be live in
the ACH lobby interviewing patients, parents, caregivers and supporters of the hospital,
in an effort to raise funds for ACH.
How can you help with the Champions for Children Radiothon?
• Volunteer in the phone bank.
Help us take donations and pledges by volunteering for a two-hour shift in the
Radiothon phone bank. To sign up, please contact Jessica Buckler in the ACH Foundation

• Become a Change Angel.
Collect change from friends and family members and donate the change to
ACH. It’s that easy! Each Change Angel who raises $100 or more will receive a T-shirt

• Encourage others to tune in.
Spread the word about the Radiothon to friends and family via e-mail, Facebook or
word of mouth. The more people who tune in, the more money raised for the patients of
ACH!
It’s hard to argue the point that print is dead when
you see how busy the Admin Support Services Department
at ACH stays. Copies, newly created documents
and loads of mail keep this team wading in important
papers on a daily basis.
“If you have a job you need completed, it never
hurts to ask us about it,” said Admin Support Services
Manager Tamara Hargrove. “You may think that something
sounds small-scale or outlandish, but chances are,
we can probably accomplish it!”
In fact, on a monthly basis the department completes
an average of 236 projects in its print shop and
handles 25,000 pieces of outgoing metered mail. They
also distribute pieces sent through inneroffice mail to
more than 200 departments, transport samples from
labs to the Circle of Friends and Adolescent Clinics, and
make deliveries to UAMS and the West Little Rock Clinic
twice daily. The department also provides a comprehensive
courier service that logs miles all across Central
Arkansas.
“We don’t bat an eye when someone asks us if we
can deliver just about anywhere in the area,” Hargrove
said. “We end up everywhere from Conway Regional
Hospital to the Lonoke County Courthouse.”
Admin Support Services completes these tasks
with a fleet of seven ACH team members, including
four couriers, a print shop tech, a secretary and the division’s manager.
The group has expanded its service range in the last year, and now provides industrial
cutting using a hydraulic machine that can slice a ream of paper in one shot, Hargrove
said.
The only projects the division currently charges for are vinyl posters.
The rapid pace at which the team must move to keep up with the flow of paper
across ACH can sometimes be a challenge. Just imagine trying to keep up with exactly

Hit the Road to Readiness to Prepare
for Joint Commission Survey
By now, the word is out that 2011 is a Joint Commission survey year for ACH! And, of
course, CMS (Medicaid/Medicare) and the State Department of Health can always stop
by for a visit at any time. So in an effort to keep us on the “Road to Readiness,” we have
a few new resources for you to access right now.
First, the 2011 Road to Readiness Survey Compliance Guide is complete and on its way
to your department. This guide – being printed in mass quantities for all staff – contains
summaries of the standards, what to expect during the survey and lots of readiness information.
Look for it in your area in the coming days!
Second, check out the new Road to Readiness link on the MyACH website. By clicking
that link, you will find access to all editions of the Beyond Status Quo newsletters, accreditation
standards, awareness and education posters and the new survey compliance
guide.

CVICU Honors Service of Jeremy Daniel
The CVICU team recently honored Jeremy
Daniel at a reception in the Cress Board
room for his 30 years of service at Arkansas
Children’s Hospital. During that time Jeremy
has been a dedicated employee providing excellent
care to the children of our state and
region.
Author Norman MacEwen once said,
“Happiness is not so much in having as sharing.
We make a living by what we get, but we
make a life by what we give”. As a member
of the CVICU team, Jeremy has dedicated his
working time at ACH to serving others and
sharing his talents to benefit the health and
wellness of the children of Arkansas.
In celebration of Jeremy’s 30 years of
service at ACH he received a beautiful heartshaped
plaque (pictured at right), which
serves to remind us all that the power of a
heart-filled community can be strong and farreaching.

“Learning all the employees and departments is
hard,” said courier James Thompson. “It’s especially
challenging when employees change departments or
when teams move to new locations.”
But the department’s staff agree that working together
as a team keeps them going strong. They also
rely on laughter, which is plentiful in Admin Support’s
facility on 10th Street opposite the ACH Fitness
Center.
In the last year, the team has had plenty of chuckles
caused by a few little creatures who have dropped
in for visits.
“We seem to be an animal rescue center,” Hargrove
said. “We’ve had birds flying around, squirrels
that ran in and a wayward kitten, for whom we found
a wonderful home with a team member in IT!”
Hargrove attributes her team’s satisfaction to the
constant laughter.
“Laughing is an essential part of working and reducing
the stress involved!”

If you’d like to check on whether Admin Support can assist your department with
a project, the best avenue is to e-mail an electronic file to adminsupport@archildrens.org.
If an electronic file is not available, you walk a copy over to the department’s location
on 10th Street. Files that are too large to e-mail can be placed on the K or Z drives, and
customers can e-mail directions for accessing them to the address above. Also feel free to
