The cooperative uni<strong>on</strong>s’ <strong>coffee</strong> supply channel is a shorter <strong>coffee</strong> value-chain and allows a<br />

framework where transparency, traceability, ecological and social resp<strong>on</strong>sibility facilitate product<br />

upgrading by certificati<strong>on</strong> and quality improvement. A lot of m<strong>on</strong>eys was invested by NGOs and<br />

internati<strong>on</strong>al d<strong>on</strong>ors in physical and instituti<strong>on</strong>al infrastructure and training (Stellmacher, 2007).<br />

Currently Oxfam GB and Technoserv (which principal d<strong>on</strong>or is Bill Gates Corporati<strong>on</strong>) are acting <strong>on</strong><br />

<strong>Limu</strong> Kosa, <strong>Limu</strong> Seka and Chore Botor service cooperatives and especially <strong>on</strong> <strong>Limu</strong> Inara Multi-<br />

Purpose Cooperative Uni<strong>on</strong> members.<br />

6.2.2) The <strong>Limu</strong> Inara Multi-purpose Cooperative Uni<strong>on</strong>, an initiatives’ leader?<br />

The Yuuniyeenii Limmuu Innaaraa 91<br />

, or <strong>Limu</strong> Inara Farmers Multi Purpose Cooperative<br />

Uni<strong>on</strong>, was created in 2005 by seven service cooperatives. It covers the two ex <strong>Limu</strong> Kosa<br />

and <strong>Limu</strong> Seka woredas, the current four <strong>Limu</strong> Kosa, <strong>Limu</strong> Seka, Chore Botor and N<strong>on</strong>o<br />

Benja woredas. Am<strong>on</strong>g their forty nine cooperatives, twenty eight are members of the uni<strong>on</strong><br />

and twenty four are dealing with <strong>coffee</strong>. And seven cooperatives are candidates:<br />

- <strong>Limu</strong> Kosa : 8/28 and 3/7<br />

- <strong>Limu</strong> Seka : 11/28 and 2/7<br />

- Chore Botor : 5/28 and 2/7<br />

- N<strong>on</strong>o Benja : 4/28<br />
