colour and has sixteen petals. It is <strong>the</strong> seat of <strong>the</strong> Udana and<br />

<strong>the</strong> Âkâsa Tatwa; its presiding adept is Chhagalanda and its<br />

goddess Sakini.<br />

6. <strong>The</strong> Ajna Chakkra. This Chakkra is situated between <strong>the</strong><br />

two eyebrows, in <strong>the</strong> place of <strong>the</strong> pineal gland. It is <strong>the</strong> seat of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Mano Tatwa, and consists of two petals. Within this lotus<br />

are sometimes placed <strong>the</strong> three mystical principles of Vindu,<br />

Nadi and Shakti.* “Its presiding adept is called Sukla-<br />

Mahakala (<strong>the</strong> white great time; also Adhanari—‘Adonai’) its<br />

presiding goddess is called Hakini.Ӡ<br />

97. Within that petal, <strong>the</strong>re is <strong>the</strong> eternal seed, brilliant as he autumnal moon.<br />

<strong>The</strong> wise anchorite by knowing this is never destroyed.<br />

98. This is <strong>the</strong> great light held secret in all <strong>the</strong> Tantras; by contemplating on<br />

this, one obtains <strong>the</strong> greatest psychic powers, <strong>the</strong>re is no doubt in it.<br />

99. I am <strong>the</strong> giver of salvation, I am <strong>the</strong> third linga in <strong>the</strong> turya (<strong>the</strong> state of<br />

ecstasy, also <strong>the</strong> name of <strong>the</strong> thousand petalled lotus.‡ By contemplating on<br />

<strong>The</strong> Sushumnâ following <strong>the</strong> spinal cord on reaching <strong>the</strong><br />

sutures of <strong>the</strong> skull, by a modification goes to <strong>the</strong> right side of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Ajna lotus, whence it proceeds to <strong>the</strong> left nostril, and is<br />

called <strong>the</strong> Varana, Ganges (northward flowing Ganges) or Ida.<br />

By a similar modification in <strong>the</strong> opposite direction <strong>the</strong><br />
