The humble petition of Daninel oge O Mulconnery<br />

To <strong>the</strong> Right Honourable <strong>the</strong> Lord Deputy and <strong>the</strong> rest of his Majesties<br />

Commissioners of Plant<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

Showing to your honours th<strong>at</strong> about 24 years since Morish O Mulconery<br />

your petitioner’s fa<strong>the</strong>r for <strong>the</strong> n<strong>at</strong>ural love and affection he did bear to your<br />

petitioner and for o<strong>the</strong>r valuable causes and consider<strong>at</strong>ions him moving<br />

did by his deed d<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> 4th day of April Anno Domini 1614 give and grant<br />

to Teige Mac Mohona Mac Conmara and Teige O Brien Mac Donnogh<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir heirs and assigns <strong>the</strong> town and lands of Ardkeile being in <strong>the</strong> estim<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

one ploughland or <strong>the</strong>reabouts, <strong>the</strong> town and lands of Carhowlegane<br />

containing one ploughland and <strong>the</strong> town and lands of Crevagh being one<br />

ploughland all lying in <strong>the</strong> county of Clare and barony of Bunr<strong>at</strong>ty to <strong>the</strong><br />

sole and immedi<strong>at</strong>e use of your petitioner and <strong>the</strong> heirs male of his body<br />

in remainder as by <strong>the</strong> said deed d<strong>at</strong>ed as aforesaid may appear by virtue<br />

of which feoffment <strong>the</strong> said feofees became seised of <strong>the</strong> premises to <strong>the</strong><br />

use of your petitioner as aforesaid and to o<strong>the</strong>r uses in remainder in <strong>the</strong><br />

said deed contained.<br />

Be th<strong>at</strong> so it is, may it please your honours th<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> right honourable<br />

Don<strong>at</strong>, l<strong>at</strong>e earl of <strong>Thomond</strong>, having a gre<strong>at</strong> desire to gain and acquire <strong>the</strong><br />

said lands <strong>from</strong> your petitioner’s said fa<strong>the</strong>r in regard [th<strong>at</strong>] <strong>the</strong>y lay convenient<br />

and near to <strong>the</strong> lands of his manor of Bunr<strong>at</strong>ty [and] having several<br />

times tre<strong>at</strong>ed with your petitioner’s fa<strong>the</strong>r for purchasing <strong>the</strong> said lands and<br />

could not compass his intent, <strong>at</strong> last in a compulsory manner and as your<br />

petitioner is given to understand, by restraining your petitioner’s said fa<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>from</strong> his liberty, your petitioner’s said fa<strong>the</strong>r long after <strong>the</strong> said ffeement made<br />

viz: in <strong>the</strong> year 1618 was forced to give <strong>the</strong> possession of <strong>the</strong> premises, so<br />

conveyed to <strong>the</strong> use of your petitioner as aforesaid, to <strong>the</strong> said Don<strong>at</strong>, l<strong>at</strong>e earl<br />

of <strong>Thomond</strong> in exchange of <strong>the</strong> lands of Shandangane. Shandangane, <strong>the</strong> land<br />

of Craganeowen and two quartermeers of land in Culleane, all being [tear]<br />

ploughlands or <strong>the</strong>reabouts and lying in <strong>the</strong> county of Clare; your petitioner<br />

sayeth th<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> said lands given by his said fa<strong>the</strong>r and est<strong>at</strong>ed upon your petitioner<br />

as aforesaid are worth £200 per annum and <strong>the</strong> said lands given by <strong>the</strong><br />

said earl not worth above £60.<br />

The premises considered for as much as his majesties as <strong>the</strong> grand office<br />

l<strong>at</strong>ely taken entitled to all <strong>the</strong> said county of Clare to <strong>the</strong> end th<strong>at</strong> your supplicant<br />

may upon settlement of <strong>the</strong> plant<strong>at</strong>ion in those parts partake of <strong>the</strong><br />

benefit of his majesties grace and have his proportion out of his own land<br />

est<strong>at</strong>ed to him as aforesaid to <strong>the</strong> end he may not be concluded or loose his<br />
