Thursday after <strong>the</strong> feast <strong>of</strong> Blessed Peter ad<br />

vincula last [2 August] <strong>the</strong> nuns <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Benedictine priory <strong>of</strong> Farewell, vac. <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> death<br />

<strong>of</strong> Anabilla, <strong>the</strong> last prioress, sought a licence<br />

<strong>to</strong> elect a suitable prioress from <strong>the</strong> bp. The nuns<br />

<strong>the</strong>n elected Iseult de Pype as prioress and she<br />

personally came <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> bp. and humbly sought him<br />

<strong>to</strong> admit her as prioress <strong>by</strong> virtue <strong>of</strong> her<br />

election. The bp. was acting outside his diocese<br />

at that time, hindered <strong>by</strong> various matters, and<br />

commissioned <strong>the</strong> chancellor <strong>of</strong> Lichfield church <strong>to</strong><br />

examine Iseult de Pype in all matters and <strong>to</strong><br />

confirm <strong>the</strong> election if she should be found<br />

suitable and worthy, provided that <strong>the</strong> rights and<br />

cus<strong>to</strong>ms <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> monastery were observed.<br />

form, <strong>to</strong> M. John de Brabanzon, priest, rec<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong><br />

church <strong>of</strong> Wolstan<strong>to</strong>n, <strong>to</strong> study for one year.<br />
