694 23 February 1309, London. Mandate <strong>to</strong> archd.<br />

<strong>of</strong> Stafford <strong>to</strong> install, or cause <strong>to</strong> be installed,<br />

Br. John de Attelberge as prior <strong>of</strong> priory <strong>of</strong> S<strong>to</strong>ne<br />

and for <strong>the</strong> obedientaries <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> priory <strong>to</strong> answer<br />

695 Same date. Mandate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> religious <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

priory <strong>of</strong> S<strong>to</strong>ne. The bp., having examined with his<br />

council <strong>the</strong> election <strong>of</strong> John de Attelberge,<br />

subprior, as prior <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> house, found substantial<br />

and marked defects and, on account <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> improper<br />

form <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same, annulled <strong>the</strong> election, claiming<br />

jurisdiction. Lest <strong>the</strong> house should suffer damage<br />

in spiritualities and temporalities on account <strong>of</strong><br />

a long vacancy, <strong>the</strong> bp., having examined Br. John,<br />

finds him suitable and considers him an adequate<br />

pas<strong>to</strong>r for <strong>the</strong> administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> temporalities<br />

and spiritualities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> house. All and each<br />

should admit John as prior and obey him in all<br />

things.<br />
