(Brinkelowe), <strong>to</strong> study for four years from <strong>the</strong><br />

date <strong>of</strong> his institution' within <strong>the</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

constitution <strong>of</strong> Boniface.<br />

633 5 June 1311, York. Letter <strong>to</strong> Ge<strong>of</strong>frey de<br />

Vilers, deacon, presented <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> vicarage <strong>of</strong><br />

Nunea<strong>to</strong>n and afterwards instituted as vicar <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

bp. when it was pre-arranged for him <strong>to</strong> be<br />

ordained a priest <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> bp. at York at <strong>the</strong> next<br />

decreed term. The bp. was ill at that time and<br />

unable <strong>to</strong> promote Vilers <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> priestly order;<br />

lest <strong>the</strong> vicar falls in<strong>to</strong> danger <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> canon<br />

2. No. 630; bp. Lang<strong>to</strong>n received faculty <strong>to</strong> ordain<br />

in <strong>the</strong> archdiocese <strong>of</strong> York on 24 May 1311, Rea.<br />

Greenfield, iv, no. 2339. This ordination service<br />

could have been held on 5 June (Trinity) but<br />

Lang<strong>to</strong>n was probably in prison at York <strong>by</strong> this<br />

date.<br />
