622 (Undated. ) After <strong>the</strong> resignation <strong>of</strong> Ka<strong>the</strong>rine<br />

Boydin, former prioress <strong>of</strong> Henwood, which she made<br />

freely and purely before <strong>the</strong> bp. in <strong>the</strong> great<br />

chamber <strong>of</strong> his palace at Lichfield on 8 April<br />

1310, <strong>the</strong> bp. wrote, under <strong>the</strong> same date, <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

subprioress and convent that <strong>the</strong>y should proceed<br />

with <strong>the</strong> election <strong>of</strong> a new prioress and he granted<br />

<strong>the</strong>m a licence for this and instructed <strong>the</strong> abbess<br />

and convent <strong>of</strong> Polesworth that <strong>the</strong>y should receive<br />

Ka<strong>the</strong>rine and for her <strong>to</strong> stay <strong>the</strong>re for some time.<br />

Afterwards, <strong>the</strong> subprioress and convent requested<br />

from Ralph de Perham, deputy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> abbot <strong>of</strong><br />

Westminster, <strong>the</strong>ir patron, a licence <strong>to</strong> elect and<br />

<strong>the</strong>y elected amicably, or ra<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>y nominated,<br />

Margaret le Corzon as <strong>the</strong>ir prioress. They<br />

presented <strong>the</strong> same election or nomination <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

bp. <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir letters sealed with <strong>the</strong> common seal,<br />

and <strong>by</strong> Millicent de Fokerham, subprioress, Margery<br />

atte Barre and Agnes de Wyveles<strong>to</strong>n, nuns <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

house, <strong>the</strong>y <strong>of</strong>fered a letter patent with <strong>the</strong><br />

assent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir patron at Lichfield on 15 April<br />

1310. The bp., his council and M. Robert de<br />

Radeswelle, archd. <strong>of</strong> Chester, M. Luke de Ely,<br />

chancellor <strong>of</strong> Lichfield church, and M. Ge<strong>of</strong>frey de<br />

Blas<strong>to</strong>n, canon <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same, examined <strong>the</strong> letters<br />

and found that <strong>the</strong> subprioress and convent had not<br />

observed <strong>the</strong> rule and <strong>the</strong> bp. annulled <strong>the</strong><br />

election and pronounced it invalid. Afterwards,<br />

<strong>the</strong> bp. provided <strong>the</strong> aforesaid Margaret as<br />

prioress <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> priory, and she sang <strong>the</strong> canticle<br />

Te Deum well. Letters <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> subprioress and<br />

convent <strong>to</strong> receive her and obey her as prioress,<br />

and <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> rec<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Matlock that she should be<br />

installed.<br />
