Interpreting your personal style if an informal, colorful cottage garden-style appeals to you, think carefully about viewing distances. some cottage gardens contain only one of each plant. This can seem chaotic and often has less visual impact from a distance but when viewed at close range (a nearby bench or path) can be fascinating. For a larger cottage-style bed that draws attention from a distance, place odd numbers of the same dwarf shrubs in casual groups (three of one shrub here, fi ve of another shrub there) throughout the bed. Then add a single multitrunked contrasting shrub as a focal point.
