Biodiversity of Wielangta Forest
Comment
Only recorded in Wielangta from native forest
north of Jacob Hill. Represented by other
scattered records across southern Tasmania in
wet forest.
Single record from a site near Wielangta Hill
subject to selective harvesting in 2005. This
species is widespread in low altitude forest
throughout Tasmania.
Numerous records from drier ridges and slopes
in east and northern parts of study area. These
populations form the southern most distribution
of an east coast endemic mallee tree
concentrated around central eastern Tasmania.
Localised records from rocky slopes of Prosser
Gorge – the most southerly records in
Tasmania. This is a fire responsive short lived
perennial recorded from east coast and Flinders
Island.
Single known population at Gatehouse Marsh
close to Tasman Highway.
Single record from Kellevie – typically
associated with low lying flats under E. ovata or
persisting in rough pasture after clearing.
Saltmarsh species only known from Earlham
Lagoon in study area
Single known population at Gatehouse Marsh
close to Tasman Highway
Entirely localised to Wielangta area extending
from just north of Wielangta Hill to Gordon
Sugarloaf near Kellevie.
Localised to three locations in study area:
headwaters of Griffiths Rivulet, Thumbs Lookout
and Prosser Gorge. These are the southern
most populations of a species which is
concentrated on the Tasmanian east coast.
Confined to southern boundary of study area
between Iles Tier and Gordon Sugarloaf near
Kellevie.
