TABLE TENNIS RULES & REGULATIONS
Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles
(1) SCHEDULING OF 1-DAY TOURNEY:
** Since this is a 1-day tournament, participants must be in the gym for the duration of the tournament. Matches
in the same pool are played right after the next game is done. Maximum of 12 players/teams for a 4-Pool Tourney.
1.1 All participants (both Singles & Doubles) will be placed randomly in pools of 3 and are guaranteed 2 matches
during the regular round. Players who advance from the regular round will play a single pool elimination round.
1.2 A forfeit will be assessed to player(s) who do not show up by the deadlines as indicated on the schedule.
1.3 All league games will begin at their scheduled time; therefore, there is NO 10-minute grace period for forfeits.
GAME TIME is FORFEIT TIME due the amount of participants and time constraints for the league. Any participant
who forfeits twice during pool play will NOT advance to the single elimination playoff bracket.
1.4 ANY incomplete score sheets will be considered a DOUBLE FORFEIT for both players. Make sure that both
players sign the score sheet confirming the score and place it into the folder.
(2) PLAYING FORMAT:
2.1 A match consists of the best of 3 series or ½ hour, whichever comes first.
2.2 To win a game, a player must reach 21 points and must win by 2 points. Cap of 27 points.
2.3 Players will alternate serves after every 5 points scored. Players are allowed 1 extra serve after a missed serve.
A missed serve is defined as the ball hitting the net on a serve.
2.4 IF the score is tied at 20 points apiece, THEN the serve changes from 5 serves to 2 serves per person until a
winner is declared. Still a cap of 27 points.
2.5 Matches are self-officiated. Player(s)-in-waiting will be scoring the match in session.
2.6 Definitions:
2.6a a rally is the period during which the ball is in play.
2.6b the ball is in play from the last moment at which it is stationary on the palm of the free hand before being
intentionally projected in service until the rally is decided as a let or a point.
2.6c a let is a rally of which the result is not scored.
(3) SCORING:
3.1 A point is scored after each ball is put into play. The match is played by rally-point.
3.2 The edges of the table are part of the legal table surface, but not the sides.
3.3 Unless a rally is a let, a player(s) shall score a point:
3.3a if an opponent fails to make a correct serve;
3.3b if an opponent fails to make a correct return;
3.3c if, after he or she has made a service or a return, the ball touches anything other than the net assembly
before being struck by an opponent;
3.3d if the ball passes over his or her court or beyond his or her end line without touching his or her court,
after being struck by an opponent;
3.3e if an opponent obstructs the ball;
3.3f if an opponent deliberately strikes the ball twice in succession;
3.3g if an opponent strikes the ball with a side of the racket blade;
3.3h if an opponent, or anything an opponent wears or carries, moves the playing surface;
3.3i if an opponent, or anything an opponent wears or carries, touches the net assembly;
3.3j if an opponent's free hand touches the playing surface;
3.3k if a doubles opponent strikes the ball out of the sequence established by the first server and first receiver.
TABLE TENNIS RULES & REGULATIONS
Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles
4.1 In singles, the server shall first make a service, the receiver shall then make a return and thereafter server and
4.2 In doubles, the server shall first make a service, the receiver shall then make a return, the partner of the server
shall then make a return, the partner of the receiver shall then make a return and thereafter each player in turn
in that sequence shall make a return.
(5) LEGAL SERVICE
5.1 The ball must rest on an open hand palm. Then it must be tossed up at least 6 inches and struck so the ball
