not interpretation1 belong to God? Tell me what you have<br />

dreamed."<br />

3. The chief butler first told his dream : " I saw before me<br />

a vine, on which were three branches, nrhich, by little and<br />

little, sent out buds; and afterwards tho blofisorns brought<br />

forth ripe grapes. And thc cup of Pharao wae in rny hand,<br />

and I took the grapes and presscd them into the cup which 1<br />

held, and I gave the cup to Fharao."<br />

4. Jo~leph answered: "Thi~i is the interpretation of the<br />

dream : The three branches are yet thrcc days, after ~vhich<br />

Pharao will restore thee to thy former place, and thou shalt<br />

prcscnt him the cup as before. Only rclncrnber me, when it<br />

shall be well with thee, and do mc this kindnees, to put<br />

Pl~arao in mind to take mc out ofthis prison."<br />

6. Then t11c chicf baker, seeing that Joveph had so wiscly<br />

interpreted the dream, said : " I also dreamed a drcrtm, that<br />

I had three baskets of meal upon my hencl ; and that in ono<br />

basket, which was upperr~lost, I carried all kinds of pastry,<br />

and that the birds ate out of it."<br />

6. Joseph said to him : " This is the interpretation of the<br />

dream: The thrcc baskcts arc yct three days, after which<br />

Pl~nrno will take thy hcad from thee and hang thcc on a cross,<br />

and the birds shall tcar thy flesh." The third day after this<br />

was the birthday of Pharao.<br />

7. At the banquet he remembered thechief butler arid chief<br />

baker. Tbc former he restored to his place; the latter he<br />

caused to bc hanged upon ugibbet. The chief butler rejoiced<br />

in his good fortune, but hc t11011ght 110 more of Josepll.<br />
