Isaac Mawies Rebecca.

OW Abrahw was advanced in years, and the Lord had
N blessed him in all things. IIe, honwcr, wishcd, before
his death, to see his son ~veclcled to n virtuous wifc.
But, as the daughters of the land were wicked, he aaid to his
old servant Eliezerl: '( Go to nly own country and kindred,
and take a wife thence for my sun Isaac ; but takc earc not to
take one of the daughters of the Ghannauite~,~ among whom 1
dwell." The servant promised to observe faithfully all that
Abrahltm had commanded him.
2. Hc then took ten camels of bis master's herd, loaded
them with rich presents, and set out for Harnn, where hT*
chor,' the brother of Abraham, dwclt. Arriving there, hc lct
his camels rest ncar a wcll outside the city. It was in the
evening, thc time when the young women were wont to come
out to draw water from thc wcll. Thcn he prayed fervently
within himself that heaven might prosper his undertaking:
3. '( 0 Lord, I beseech Bee, show Irindncss to my master
Abraham. Behold, I stand nigh the spring, and the dax~ghters
of tl~c inhabitants of the city will come out to draw water.
Now, therefore, the maid to whom I shall say : ' Let down
thy pitcher that I may drink,' and shc shall answer : ' Drink,
and I will give thy camels drink also,' let it be the same
whom Thou hast provided for Thy servant Isaac; and by
this I shall understand that Thon hast shown ltiadness to my
master." He Imd not yet ended his prayer when Rebecca, a
beautiful and modcst maiden, came out, carrying a pitcher.
4. She went, down to the spring, filled the pitcher, and wm
returning, when Eliezcr ran to mcot her, and said: " Give
