CHAPTER LXVII.
Know that it is an evil and a bitter thing for thee, to have left
the Lord thy God.-Jer. 8, 19.
HE Lord censed not to send to the Ismlitce hoIy pro-

example. But the Tsraelites would not be converted, and
their wickedness increased to such an extent thnt the Almighty
resolved to punish them in His .wrath, slid utterly
to destroy them. He, therefore, caused Salmanonar1,king of
Assyria, to come againat them with a mighty army. He laid
siege to the strong city of Samaria, and aftcr three years took
it, rtnd carried off most of the inhabitants, and thus the Icingdom
of Israel ccased to exist.

tivity, thcir land had become almost a wildcrness, and tho
