65 o C for 10 mins or 71 o C for 3 mins.
No hand sluicing of fouled items.
Equipment:
No shared equipment - if sharing necessary: disinfect between each resident. (see Control of Infection
Manual [CIM])
Environmental cleaning:
Clean up spills/contamination as soon as possible (see CIM)
Maintain good domestic cleaning (increased toilet cleaning frequency may be required)
Clinical Waste:
Dispose of protective clothing, incontinence pads etc as clinical waste.
Stool Specimens:
Send stool specimens from all affected as soon as possible
Mark specimen request form "outbreak" and request “virology testing”
Staff:
Stop if possible or limit staff movement between affected and non-infected areas of establishment.
Staff from the infected area should refrain from working in other healthcare establishments for the duration
of the outbreak.
Avoid using agency staff in affected areas if possible, if used, ensure that agency is notified of outbreak.
Symptomatic staff must stay off work until 48 hours symptom free.
Food Samples:
Retain all food samples until further notice
Visitors:
Visitors should be informed of the outbreak and advised that should they wish to visit they should restrict this
to their relative only and avoid mixing with other residents/ visitors.
Admissions
During the outbreak the establishment will be closed to admissions.
Transfers:
Has there been, or is there any intended transfer of residents to another residential establishment or hospital?
If so,
- record details of date, time and location.
- inform the receiving unit of the outbreak.
