Introduction 

Thank you for taking the time to consider the products offered in this catalog. We hope the following 

explanation of Medeco's integration of high security, precision quality and flexibility will establish a 

framework for further evaluation of our products. 

Medeco is the forerunner in establishing the difference between security and high security in a 

mechanical locking device. This concept of high security is an integral part of each and every 

Medeco product, and has been since the 196D'swhen our unique" patented double locking principle 

was invented. As proven by exhaustive testing worldwide.our high security locks are among the best 

that have ever been made. 

Briefly, the first element of Medeco's locking principle is a series of pin tumblers which must be 

elevated by the cuts or bitting of the key. This first element is normally the only security afforded a 

cylinder in a standard commercial or residentiallockset. The second element of Medeco's double 

locking mechanism is a sidebar that requires pin tumblers to be rotated and elevated by the unique 

angular cuts on the key. This rotation aligns a slot in each pin tumbler. When the pin tumblers 

have been properly elevated and rotated, the "fingers" or projections on the sidebar may now 

enter the pin tumbler slots. Inserting the proper key releases the locking mechanisms to activate the 

lockset. 

This unique double locking mechanism renders Medeco cylinders virtually pickproof. For additional 

security Medeco cylinders: are equipped with hardened steel inserts that protect strategic 

areas of the cylinder from drilling and surreptitious entry. Antidrill rods surround the keyway and 

hardened inserts protect the shear line and sidebar areas of the cylinders. 

A Medeco cylinder, in addition to being virtually burglar proof, also requires a special key which 

must be made on a special key cutting machine. This limits the availability of key duplicates" thus 

limiting access to your keys. If you cannot always account for your keys, key control should be a 

prime consideration when choosing a lock or locking system for your application. Details of our 

Key Control program are found in the following section.

Medeco Suggested Architectural Specification 

All lock cylinders for this project are to be of the pick-resistant, high security type with angled key 

cuts and rotating tumblers as manufactured by Medeco Security Locks, Inc. AU cylinders shall be 

Underwriters Laboratories Listed (UL 437) standard for key locks, All lock cylinders are to incorporate 

a dual-locking principle consisting of a side-bar mechanism and tumbler rotation and elevation. 

The critical parts of the locking mechanism" pins, shear line and side bar shall be afforded extra 

protection from drilling and other forceful attacks by the strategic placement of hardened steel 

inserts. 

The locking system is to be furnished in a factory restricted key section for which uncut keys are 

not made available from the manufacturer's factory or any other source by normal distribution 

methods. All key duplication must be done at the factory upon properly authorized signature. 

The factory shall make available the capability of a minimum of three possible angles of cut on the 

key blade. All cylinders shall be completely rekeyable to new combinations. The product shall be 

immediately serviceable on location. 

The locking system established for this project shall be proprietary and the owner will furnish to 

the manufacturer, a list of those persons and their signatures, who will be authorized to order additional 

materials or duplicate keys. Orders not bearing authorized signatures will be returned. 

The masterkeys (if masterkeyed) for this project shall be sent by registered mail or UPS AOD 

(acknowledgement of delivery) from the factory directly to the owner.

The main objective of key control is to restrict the acquisition of keys. It is one of the most vital factors in 

determining the security level of any lock system and it is an integral part of lock security. Medeco has 

developed and maintained various levels of key control tailored to the security needs of the end user. 

Anyone with temporary access to standard type keys-tenants" maintenance personnel, employees 

- has no problem getting duplicates made for their own use. The basic problem is the ready availability 

of most key blanks and common key cutting machines. Medeco has counteracted the key control 

problem by doing three things: 

1. manufacturing cylinders which use keys that must be made on special key cutting machines. These 

machines must be capable of reproducing the angled cuts and critical tolerances necessary to produce a 

workable key; 

2. taking successful court action to protect against unauthorized manufacture and distribution of their key 

blanks; 

3. selling only to professional security industries such as locksmith wholesalers, contract hardware and 

alarm equipment suppliers. 

Levell, the Comrnerciallevel, is designed for consumers who wish to have keys made with minimum delay. 

Qualified locksmiths with a Medeco key cutting machine can make Levell duplicates. Consumers must control 

access to keys in this, level since they can be duplicated without authorization. 

Level 2" Registered, is provided for those who do not always have sole possession of their keys, but need 

duplicates with only a short delay. Level 2 duplication requires positive identification in the form of a factory 

issued control card with embossed control data and the purchaser's signature. Control cards are supplied 

with each cylinder when shipped from the factory. A locksmith cannot make Level 2 duplicates, but an area 

distributor, provided with the proper identification, has authorization. The distributor must account for 

every key with an order form signed by the customer, thus adding another check in the Level 2 control 

system. 

The Level 3 Restricted keys are made by the factory. An authorized signature, that must be supplied to the 

factory, is kept on file for comparison when subsequent orders are made. No subsequent orders can be processed 

without a comparison signature. These key blanks do not leave the factory - thus duplication is 

controlled from within. 

The Level 4 Omega series is designed for those who want the assurance that no other keys are 

available for their locks-the Omega is the ultimate in security. There are no provisions for 

duplication of Level 4 keys. At the time the order is placed, any number of keys may be specified. 

This single set is contained on a sealed ring, and each key is individually identified to account for 

its part of a complete set. For example, I of 4,2 of 4,3 of 4, and 4 of 4. No key blanks are provided 

for the Level 4 Omega series. The cylinders for this series can be ordered keyed alike but not 

master keyed.

Master Keying 

Master Key systems are available as a means to allow and restrict access. It is particularly useful in 

corporate offices, factories, school systems-anyplace that is frequented by a conglomerate of 

employees, from maintenance personnel to the top executives. It is based on several access levels 

and is always tailored to, fit the security needs of a particular business. 

The top level key, often referred to as the Great Grand Master Key (GGMK), is able to open all 

the doors, of a security system. The next level (Grand Master Key or GMK) can open only designated 

doors, and so on it goes-Master Key (MK) and Change Key (CK). The bottom level (CK) 

usually opens only one door or room.

Note: All orders for Master Key Systems must include the end user (job) name and mailing address and authorized 

signature samples to be used for comparison on future orders. If the end user is a locksmith, a letter specifying that 

condition is required from that locksmith.

Rim

Medeco's high security Rim and Mortise cylinders are made for residential and commercial 

applications of door locksets. Both incorporate the double locking principle, and both are made of 

brass with drill resistant inserts. Certain mortise and rim top pins are hardened steel to prevent 

drilling of shear line. The Mortise cylinder is secured into the lockset and has a cam. The Rim 

cylinder has a tailpiece and is mounted with two. screws and a plate into the opposite side of the 

door. Both interface with locksets of major manufacturers as.follows:

Ordering Instructions 

To be certain that orders will be processed properly, select the correct catalog number from the 

following tabulation. Also select the required cam or connecting bar as illustrated on pages 10and ]1 

of the catalog. The type of finish is to be selected from page 2 and specified. Orders are shipped with 

two keys unless otherwise indicated. Indicate keyway by adding two digits to order number. Example: 

10-0100-XX. If cylinder rings are required" specify CP-180021 (Old part #- is, 10-059) raised or 

CP-180041 (Old part #- is 10-099)lowered.

D-I1M Series 

Deadbolt 

The D~11Deadbolt has been designed specifically for residential and business applications. It provides 

maximum protection with anti-drilling and anti-prying features and includes Medeco's double 

locking high security cylinder for pick resistance. It is constructed of solid machined brass and is 

available in any of the eight handsome finishes featured on page 2. 

The D~H is offered in three functions: 1) single cylinder, with the cylinder outside and a thumbturn 

inside; 2) the cylinder Iblank, where one of the cylinders has been replaced with a blank plate; 

and 3) double cylinder (can be ordered with the captive thumbturn key). 

An optional feature of the D-ll double cylinder deadbolt utilizes a patented key thumbturn that 

converts the inside cylinder to' a thumbturn for safety sure exit when the facility is occupied. When 

the facility is vacant, a quick conversion returns the D~11to' its double cylinder mode and on guard 

against access or exit. 

The D-11 is recommended as the best door lock for residential and business use. Its finished appearance 

enhances any door. 

Installation: 

Completely reversible for left hand or right hand, standard or reverse bevel doors ..Identical door 

preparation for aU functions. Standard 1-]/2" cross bore and 1" edge bore holes. Optional adapter 

to accommodate 2-U8" cylindricallockset holes, and optional drive bolt for metal door installation. 

Unit may be installed on doors from 1-114" to 2-112" thick.

The Medeco High Security Dropbolt offers total protection needed for high crime, high risk areas in 

residential and commercia! door applications. The unique design of the D-lO will satisfy the most 

demanding security requirements, yet its aesthetic profile will enhance any living and working 

environment. 

The D-lO is designed to protect against all forms of forced attack and surreptitious compromise 

through the use of three security components. 

• A guardplate shields the lock cylinder from hammering and wrenching. As an option, the UL 

listed Medeco Bodyguard'" is available. This steel cover plate includes a hardened disc for added 

protection against chiseling, pulling and drilling. The Bodyguard" includes a decorative polished 

cover to give the door's exterior an elegant appearance. 

• The Medeco high security, UL listed Jock cylinder is operated by a coded key which lifts and 

rotates pin tumblers in a dual locking action. The lock cylinder is designed to be virtually pickproof, 

and with over 23,000,000 lock and key combinations, every lock is unique. 

• The High Security Dropbolt mounts on the inside of the door and is fastened to the steel bolts of the 

Bodyguard" plate like a vise. The internal components are protected by a second cover plate as a 

further precaution against drills and probes. Two stainless steel bolts interlock with a massive strike 

that attaches: to the door frame. Experts call the D-IO High Security Dropbolt " the best locking 

device against intrusion at any price."

Padlocks. 

Medeco manufactures two basic types of padlocks. Both contain our patented, pick resistant, high security 

cylinder. Either may be used for industrial safekeeping" perimeter gates, cargo vehicles, on vending machines 

and on gun cabinets. The High Security padlock may also be used for remote station security. 

The High Security padlock is made of solid bronze with 19hardened steel inserts. The hardened steel shackle 

comes in a choice of three diameters - %", 7ft6", and 1;2". It has a stainless steel bolt and a hardened steel bolt 

cover. The padlock weighs over two pounds and has a top loaded, removable, 6-pin Medeco cylinder. It is 

available in the key retained function only and can be keyed with existing Medeco cylinders. Other features 

include a pull resistant shrouded keyhole, toe and heel deadbolt locking action, and is available with a dust cover 

and safety chain. It can be ordered keyed differently, keyed alike, or master keyed to specifications. 

Medeco also manufactures a brass padlock, which is available in two versions: the removeable cylinder and the 

interchangeable core padlocks. Both padlocks have a cylinder or core which is UL listed and virtually pickproof 

and drillproof. Both have hardened steel inserts for high security protection. The padlock cases are constructed 

of brass with shackles of stainless steel for corrosion protection or hardened steel for protection against cutting. 

The interchangeable core padlock has been designed for ease of serviceability in the field. Its core may be 

changed in seconds using a control key, and the core retrofits other Medeco 32-series mortise and rim and 11series 

deadbolt interchangeable cores. Both types of padlocks are available with the non-key retained or keyretained 

functions. 

The brass padlocks also feature: 

• Four shackle clearance options, of~", 1 3 /4/1, 2y~tand 1W' 

• Optional rubber case cover, constructed of material especially chosen for superior weather resistance and 

protection against atmospheric conditions

Bodyguard" 

The UL listed Bodyguard by Medeco is the ultimate in rim cylinder protection. It strengthens the 

cylinder on the outside of the door while the lock protects the inside. This armored plate is constructed 

of 5/16'" solid steel" tough enough to discourage burglars from drilling, forcing, 

wrenching or pulling the cylinder. A replaceable, decorative cover conceals the rugged steel plate. 

Mounting bolts are threaded and welded to the armored plate, and enclosed by Medeco's 

exclusive hard-guard sleeves. These hardened steel sleeves prevent burglars from chiseling the 

mounting bolts. 

The Bodyguard is available with Medeco's UL-listed, high security rim cylinder, which incorporates 

all the burglar resistant features, of all Medeco cylinders. It is also available without this 

cylinder for use with existing rim cylinder locks.

Switch Lock 

The Medeco 24K -Series rotary switch lock offers many new options to the design engineer. It combines 

the high security of the Medeco cylinder with the versatility of a multi-function switch. The Medeco switch 

lock is pick resistant and offers key control. The overall length of the 3 pin lock is 1.369"; the 4 pin lock is 

~.539";and the 5 pin lock is I.709 11 

• The shorter length of the 3 pin version offers greater design freedom in 

adapting to tight spaces. The switch, listed with Ul., and CSA, offers up to 8-position switching, 45 and 90 

degree indexing, and includes a built-in 22K anti-static feature. Switch contacts, are available in either gold 

or silver, and termination options include 6" leads and custom cable assemblies. 

The Medeco switch lock is suited to applications such as electronic information systems, encryption devices, 

cash control systems, point-of-purchase terminals, industrial control panels and a variety of other applications 

requiring a multiple-switching function. It is offered in a standard satin chrome finish, with other 

finishes to special order.

Medeco's %" diameter UL listed switch locks offer a wide range of electrical functions combined 

with the security and key control of a Medeco cylinder. This unique combination is ideally suited 

for applications requiring controlled access to electrically activated systems. Typically, burglar 

alarms, electronic information systems. encryption devices, cash control systems and electrically 

controlled doors and gates are among the many applications for this versatile key switch. 

Medeco's engineering and design capabilities are available to customers with special application 

requirements. 

Features: 

Medeco high security switch locks are available in single switch and double switch. Both styles 

feature subminiature snap action switches:for reliability and versatility. Mechanical switch life is 1 

million cycles and full load electrical life is 50,000 cycles minimum" Switches are UL and CSA 

listed. Switch terminals are designed to accept quick connect leads (AMP connector No. 60598-3) 

available from Medeco. Silver contacts standardly supplied. Gold contacts available for low 

amperage applications. Complete switch specifications and test data available on request. Other 

features include:

Security Guard Collar 

Security guard collars are strongly recommended for use with Medeco cam locks when the locks 

are mounted in sheet metal applications. When installed around the face of the lock" the hardened 

steel collar is free to rotate, providing superior protection against attack with vise-grips or channellock 

pliers

Stainless Steel 


T-Handle 

Medeco's high security T-handle is the first handle of its type designed specifically to defy forced 

entry. Conventional die cast construction has been replaced with 300-series stainless steel for the 

housing and handle components. The housing surrounds and interlocks the handle to eliminate 

critical pry points, and to resist drilling, prying, wrenching and other common forms of physical 

attack. Rear loading of the lock cylinder, combined with a free-spinning hardened steel cover, protects 

against drilling and pulling. 

Special consideration has been given to serviceability. Cylinders can be quickly changed in the field 

without special tools. Conformance to NAMA and ASTM dimensional standards provides a wide 

choice of cylinders to suit individual security needs.

Medeco High Security T-handle cylinders are designed primarily for replacement of factory 

installed cylinders on all popular brands of vending machines and bill changers equipped with 

"T" handles. They may be used in other applications requiring tube type or sliding bar locking 

mechanisms. 

Removable plug type locks offer excellent security for applications requiring the use of a wrench 

or other tool to engage an internal latching mechanism, found on many currency changers. The 

64-0550 features a hardened steel housing for maximum protection against vandalism.

Cylinders 

Medeco's export cylinders are designed to retrofit in locksets of major world manufacturers. They 

incorporate Medeco's double locking principle, and are used to upgrade common locking systems 

to a high security level. They include the pick resistant, drill resistant and wrench resistant features 

of the UL listed Medeco cylinders.

Profile Cylinder 

The profile cylinders interchange with cylinders conforming to DIN 18252. They are available in 

extension steps of 5 mm, up to a total of 40 mm on either side. 


Catalog numbers are required for all orders. To order the correct cylinder fin in the X's in sequential 

order:
