Little Town Saints
Randy Ford – Faculty
I am knocked alone and disposed from artificial life,
Going to the place where I am manageable,
And I can hear background music.
Put into a trance mix like lovers will
Not kind in heart or head.
Looking backwards and forwards
Into that glooming not seeing who I was
Or what I could be. (Just what I have become),
Soft sound resonates and plays lightly as I stay
And drain blood onto paper and dreams.
Never to be given a song, holding back,
Not being there. He had a song and
It was your song too. Walking home
Down straight roads appearing and
Disappearing, making it home alone,
Drawing parallels, looking back in night’s air,
Seeing the little towns glow, Always
Measuring metrically, spiritually, soulfully,
My little town saint. Leaning back
In my chair on casual Friday recalling
Those fresh faces putting them into grey
Matter where they belong and where
They will remain until I see an image
That brings to mind their hue, I see there is no sway,
Just lurid hearts peeking over my shoulder,
In the place with my little town saint.
