Sitting quietly in the dim parlor,
The lady gently wipes a tear.
She gazes at the photo album,
Recalling the passing years.
Poetry – Second Place
This Too Shall Pass

The faces of her loved ones
Stare back into her brimming eyes.
She remembers the soft voice of mother,
“My how swiftly the time does fly.”
The smiling boy that she once cradled
Has grown to be so strong and tall.
He no longer needs her to guide him
Or to catch him if he should fall.
The little girl dressed like a princess,
Is now a young man’s bride.
She has a place to call her own
With little children by her side.
The dim parlor is engulfed with memories,
The lady cradles the album to her chest.
The photos of her precious parents
Are the only mementos she has left.
If she had only treasured
Every passing day,
Now realizing all too soon
The moments pass away.
So enjoy the time you have today,
Make every moment last.
A child‘s laughter, a parent’s concern,
Cherish them, for soon this too shall pass.
