General description<br />

The area consists <strong>of</strong> a large bay which is partially sheltered by an <strong>of</strong>fsh<strong>or</strong>e reef and a 3 km<br />

length <strong>of</strong> low-ly<strong>in</strong>g coastl<strong>in</strong>e, characterised by extensive gently slop<strong>in</strong>g boulder and cobble<br />

reefs and beaches. The area conta<strong>in</strong>s a small nationally imp<strong>or</strong>tant herbfield, and an<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternationally significant geom<strong>or</strong>phic feature. The Cape Egmont Boat Club, and a concrete<br />

boat ramp is located <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> bay.<br />

8 km south <strong>of</strong> Stony River and 6.5 km n<strong>or</strong>th <strong>of</strong> Pungarehu.<br />

unf<strong>or</strong>med Coast Road (to <strong>the</strong> n<strong>or</strong>th <strong>of</strong> Bayly Road).<br />

Public access<br />

Excellent - Bayly Road is f<strong>or</strong>med to <strong>the</strong> coast. The concrete boat ramp <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> bay provides<br />

boat launch<strong>in</strong>g facilities. Note that <strong>in</strong> some places unf<strong>or</strong>med Coast Road to <strong>the</strong><br />

n<strong>or</strong>th <strong>of</strong> Bayly Road has eroded which may prevent access to <strong>the</strong> Warea River.<br />
