General description<br />

Tataraimaka Pa (Crows Nest) is a prom<strong>in</strong>ent <strong>coastal</strong> feature, and was part <strong>of</strong> a military site.<br />

The pa is now covered <strong>in</strong> pohutukawa. The area has cobble and boulder beaches, backed by<br />

low cliffs. The coast is low ly<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>coastal</strong> f<strong>or</strong>est headlands <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g patches <strong>of</strong> wetland.<br />

Location<br />

5.5 km south <strong>of</strong> Oakura and 7 km n<strong>or</strong>th <strong>of</strong> Okato.<br />

Public access<br />

Excellent - Pitone and Greenwood Roads f<strong>or</strong>m a loop, with a section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> road directly<br />

alongside <strong>the</strong> coast. The land between <strong>the</strong> road and coast is <strong>in</strong> esplanade<br />

reserves. Inf<strong>or</strong>mation signs are present.<br />
