General description<br />

A beach at <strong>the</strong> Tapuae Stream mouth with a dune wetland area, and some scattered colonies<br />

<strong>of</strong> sp<strong>in</strong>ifex on dune. 4<br />

Location<br />

5 km south <strong>of</strong> New Plymouth and 2 km n<strong>or</strong>th <strong>of</strong> Oakura.<br />

Site: - Crown Land: F<strong>or</strong>esh<strong>or</strong>e (adm<strong>in</strong>istered by <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Conservation). On <strong>the</strong> left bank; Marg<strong>in</strong>al Strip from Tapuae<br />

Stream to <strong>the</strong> Oakura River (adm<strong>in</strong>istered by <strong>the</strong><br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Conservation)<br />

Site access: - Crown Land: State Highway 45 (adm<strong>in</strong>istered by <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Conservation)<br />

- District Land: On <strong>the</strong> right bank; Esplanade Strip (private ownership)<br />

Public access<br />

Po<strong>or</strong> - Access to <strong>the</strong> coast from State Highway 45 via a 20 m wide esplanade strip<br />

down <strong>the</strong> right bank <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tapuae Stream. New Plymouth District Council<br />

have advised that a recreation reserve will be acquired at <strong>the</strong> stream mouth<br />

beach area. There are no signposts <strong>or</strong> <strong>in</strong>dications that <strong>the</strong> public can access <strong>the</strong><br />

beach via <strong>the</strong> stream bank. Access to <strong>the</strong> stream mouth cannot be obta<strong>in</strong>ed via<br />

<strong>the</strong> marg<strong>in</strong>al strip along <strong>the</strong> coast due to physical and topographical<br />

constra<strong>in</strong>ts.<br />
