General description<br />
A Pa site on <strong>the</strong> headland adjacent to <strong>the</strong> mouth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kuwhatahi River. The site covers<br />
approximately 3 ha and is vegetated with <strong>coastal</strong> scrub and f<strong>or</strong>est. It is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> few<br />
rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g natural <strong>areas</strong> on <strong>the</strong> uplifted mar<strong>in</strong>e terrace. The headland is separated from Te<br />
Kawau Pa Reserve by a narrow sea channel 5 .<br />
Location<br />
7 km south <strong>of</strong> Mokau and 6km n<strong>or</strong>th <strong>of</strong> Tongap<strong>or</strong>utu.<br />

None - Te Puia is on private land, however <strong>the</strong>re is a rough track from a carpark on<br />
road reserve <strong>of</strong>f State Highway 3 to <strong>the</strong> headland from which Te Kawau Pa can<br />
be viewed. The Te Kawau Hist<strong>or</strong>ic Reserve is signposted <strong>of</strong>f State Highway 3.<br />
