Strapweed or Posidonia is the only
common seagrass in the Perth region,
that appears ‘grass-like’. Growing from
rhizomes that spread just below the
surface of the sand, strapweed creates
dense and extensive seagrass meadows.
Seeds fl oat to the surface during spring
before sinking to the ocean fl oor to
germinate. Strapweed often sheds its
leaves each year, which are often seen
fl oating on the surface and washed
up onto the beach.
