WELCOME... 

Welcome W to my latest brochure, which of course 

includes i all the old favourites from the past 

collections, c but I am also delighted to unveil my 

latest l collection (the tenth, would you believe it!): the 

Swedish S Collection. 

It’s I never easy starting a new range from scratch, but 

I’ve I always loved, and been inspired by, the work of the 

great g British mid-century designers, luminaries such 

as a 

Lucienne Day and Enid Marx. For my latest range I 

really wanted to capture the nostalgia of a quintessentially English style, but reinterpret 

it in a way that wasn’t too quaint or fussy, to create a bridge between town and 

country, classic and contemporary. I’ve injected some vibrant, lively tones in amongst 

the understated Gustavian shades, and I think this defi nitely makes the Swedish 

Collection very ‘now’, but at the same time quite timeless too. I do hope you like it! 

Getting in touch with our creativity as a nation seems to be the happy side effect of 

the current economic climate. We seem to be in search of inspiration for a revitalised 

look that feels as fresh as a spring day. With sewing machine sales booming and a 

fl urry of new classes teaching you how to run up your own curtains, blinds, cushions, 

and even upholstery, my forthcoming book called the ‘Home Sewn Home’ (which you 

will be able to buy through my website in the early autumn) will be a step by step 

guide showing how to make 50 different sewing projects!

My friendly and knowledgeable team is always happy to give help on putting together

SWEDISH 

Here H is the Swedish collection, my 

tenth t range of fabrics, which has drawn 

inspiration i from some of the iconic 

British B designers of the 1950s – but with 

a a subtle ‘Scandinavian’ twist! It depicts 

simple s images of birds and stylised foliage 

in i soft Gustavian colours such as Dove, 

Dusky D Pink and Duck Egg. However, for 

the t fi rst time I am also introducing some 

bright contemporary colours such 

as Pumpkin, Sweet Pea and Lime. 

I wanted to capture the nostalgia of a 

very English style, but reinterpret it in a 

way that wasn’t too quaint or fussy: in 

essence, to bridge the gap between town 

and country, classic and contemporary, 

without ever seeming as though it’s trying 

too hard or looking out of place.

HAND PRINTED 

I have a special affi nity with hand block 

printing and hand screen printing; after 

all it was how I created my very fi rst 

fabrics 20 years ago! 

These fabrics have an unsophisticated 

edge that I fi nd really beautiful. Close 

your eyes and imagine the precision and 

patience involved in creating something 

so unique. I love the distinctive marks 

and textures created by the blocks 

which are completely different to 

the smooth fi nish of conventional 

mechanically printed fabrics. 

There are three different designs to 

play with – a traditional paisley fertility 

symbol, an enchanting butterfl y and 

a simple ticking stripe. All three are 

available in both positive and negative 

forms. 

I find th e little reminders that it has been 

made by man, not machine, so charming...

I am always being asked for Linen Union in plain 

colours... Here are seventeen beautiful colours to 

compliment my patterned designs. This linen and organic 

cotton mix fabric is woven in a heavier weight yarn making 

it hard wearing and particularly suitable for upholstery, 

blinds, curtains and cushions.

MEADOW 

This collection is inspired by the manybranched 

‘Tree of Life’ illustrations used 

in science, religion, philosophy, mythology 

and the decorative arts. I have made this 

collection a family affair by naming two 

of the designs after my daughters Rose 

and Flora. 

All the good things that I love in the 

meadows around us – foliage, blossom, 

butterfl ies and birds are printed in 

newer, bolder colourways! 

Two of th e designs are named after 

my daughters Rose and Flora.

EARTH 


I have created four designs inspired by 

vintage fabrics from around the world. 

Each design stems from a traditional 

source. The paisley pattern originated 

from stylised pine cones from Kashmir 

and the leaf motif was inspired by a 16th 

century Chinese embroidery. 

The colours: Charcoal, Clay, Slate and 

Limestone, inspired by natural earth 

materials, help to take these forms and 

shapes on a contemporary journey giving 

them a fresh and more modern look.

SKY I love th e changes each season brings to th e 

trees, and hope this is reflected in my designs... 

One O of f my favourite f it artists ti t iis MMatisse, ti 

who, towards the end of his life, cut out 

bold, simple shapes for collages. I used 

this method to create Up in the Air 

and Swallow Dive. Pie in the Sky and 

Simple Spot began in the same way but 

took on a wonderfully organic block 

printed feel, reminiscent of the Arts and 

Crafts movement. 

I love the changes each season brings to 

trees and hope that this is refl ected in 

my Four Seasons design.

way w of life – the pleasures of a country 

walk w – the nostalgia of a familiar shape. 

I I love the serenity of a one-colour print 

exemplifi e ed by Fern and Dragonfl y and 

Woodland W Walk. The 1950s produced 

designs d with a special energy which I 

have h tried to encapsulate in Nature Study.

a timeless appeal which works well in

My Wildfl ower Collection takes its inspiration from the delicate shapes of 

wildfl owers found in hedgerows and fi elds. These are motifs which represent 

the peace and tranquillity that we so need in our lives. Acorns and oak leaves 

have been depicted on fabrics for centuries. I fi nd their shapes very appealing 

and have enjoyed giving them a contemporary twist in this design.

SEASIDE 

I have spent many happy hours combing 

the beaches of Pembrokeshire and 

Cornwall initially with my mother as a child 

and then with my children as a mother! 

I noticed that the shells often create 

circular halos in the sand around them, 

which I have shown in my designs. Nature 

is relaxed and instinctive about colour, the 

best combinations exist naturally and I have 

chosen watery blues and the pretty pinks 

of delicate shells.

COCKEREL 

I believe the developing fashion for 

simpler interior design stems from a 

yearning for a more basic, honest way of 

life. My Cockerel Collection developed 

directly from this ethos, and was the fi rst 

Collection I designed 12 years ago. It was 

initially hand printed on an old ping pong 

table whilst my four children played 

beneath! They collected the feathers 

from guinea fowl, pheasants and hens 

outside our kitchen door, which were 

the inspiration for these designs.

RUGS AND RUNNERS 

One of my most popular co-ordinating 

fabrics is Stripe and Dash and this design 

has been turned into a beautiful woollen 

rug and stair runner. Made from 100% 

British wool they are woven in a family 

run mill in Wales which has been weaving 

traditional rugs for over 100 years. 

The gentle colours and simplicity of my 

design means these rugs and runners are 

particularly versatile and fi t equally well in 

a country, classic or contemporary setting 

The rugs are available in two sizes: 

Small: 1.25m x 2.0m (approx) and 

Large: 1.55m x 3.0m (approx). 

They are bound with jute at both 

ends and are reversible making them 

hardwearing and long lasting. 

Our runners come in a width of 69cms 

and are sold by the metre. They can be 

fi tted to your stair case or be bound at 

both ends to create narrow width rugs 

ideal for hallways and corridors.

Made-to-Measure service, a range of 

beautiful, reversible quilts which can 

either be used on beds or as throws 

to cover sofas and chairs. 

Available in four sizes; 

single (90cm x 190cm), 

double (135cm x 190cm), 

kingsize (150cm x 200cm) and 

super kingsize (185cm x 200cm) 

they can be ordered in a choice of any 

two fabrics with either a piped edge, 

fl at border, or 8cm frill. The quilts have a 

luxurious wadding and are wonderfully

Here is my small range of high quality 

sofas, chairs and headboards which are 

illustrated throughout the brochure 

under this symbol ‘ ’. They can be 

covered in any of my fabrics (except 

cotton). I have taken great care to 

choose designs that are classic so that 

they will last for many years. This year I 

have added a beautiful, fi rm footstool to 

compliment the sofas and chairs. 

The sofa and chair frames are traditionally 

handmade in Sussex using solid beech 

from managed forests and jointed with 

dowels and screws. They are beautifully 

upholstered, using hand sprung seats in a 

small Cotswold workshop only two miles 

from here! You are most welcome to visit 

us and see how comfortable they are.

CHOOSING ORGANIC AND 

CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT 

I only buy certifi ed organic cotton which is 

combined with eco-friendly fl ax, to create 

our unique linen union which we use for 

most of our fabrics - printed and plains. 

This is because non organic cotton is the 

world’s dirtiest crop to grow, as it relies 

on the heavy use of pesticides which are 

hazardous to human and animal health. 

Pesticide use has serious adverse effects 

on biodiversity and contaminates local 

water supplies. Over time the pests build 

up resistance, so the farmers have to 

increase the amount of pesticide they buy 

to grow the same quantities of cotton. The 

high cost of these pesticides frequently 

puts the farmers into debt; in April 2009 

in Chhattisgarh, a central Indian state, this 

caused 1,500 farmers to commit suicide. 

The World Health Organisation reports 

three million pesticide poisonings per 

year in developing countries, where 

almost all cotton is produced. Symptoms 

of acute pesticide poisoning include 

vomiting, skin rashes, headaches, tremors, 

respiratory problems, muscle cramps, 

blurred vision, lack of co-ordination, 

seizures and death. By buying organic 

cotton you increase demand and help 

more farmers to be taken out of the debt 

cycle and have a better quality of life. 

In my offi ce we are trying hard to do 

all we can to reduce our impact on the 

environment: our heat comes from an 

air to air source heat pump and photo 

voltaic solar panels, and our sample room 

is highly insulated using sheep’s wool. We 

use recycled paper and biodegradable 

cardboard. All our waste card and paper 

is shredded and used as bedding for our 

ducks and chickens, which in turn makes 

compost for the vegetable patch!

PRINTED LINEN UNION 

(60% linen/40% organic cotton) 

FABRIC WIDTH:139cm 

All our patterned fabrics except the Swedish 

Collection are printed on a medium weight 

union particularly suitable for upholstery, 

loose covers, curtains, blinds, headboards 

and cushions. The linen content comes from 

Northern Europe and the cotton from 

Turkey. The cloth is woven in Scotland. 

Small slubs and irregularities in the weave 

will sometimes occur as part of the natural 

character of the fabric. 

100% LINEN 

FABRIC WIDTH: 139cm 

Our new Swedish Collection only is printed 

on a beautiful 100% linen cloth, heavier than 

our printed linen union and feels and looks 

gorgeous. The fl ax is grown in Belgium and 

woven into cloth in Scotland. The linen has 

a unique combination of properties; lasting 

durability, unrivalled comfort and rich colour 

absorption. The more it is used, the more 

beautifully it ages and gets a unique patina. 

It is highly absorbent, lint-free and nonallergenic. 

Flax is inherently ecological as it 

requires no irrigation and very little chemical 

treatment. Every part of the plant has value, 

eliminating any waste. Flax is biodegradable 

and is now commonly recycled. No other 

fi bre can offer this unique blend of a truly 

natural product, with elegance and amazing 

comfort. It is the most natural and 

environment-friendly choice for the home. 

PLAIN DYED LINEN UNION 

(60% organic cotton/40% linen) 


All our Plains are a heavier weight linen union 

suitable for upholstery, loose covers, curtains 

and blinds. The linen content comes from 

Northern Europe and the organic cotton 

from Turkey. It is woven and dyed in Scotland. 

Small slubs may occur very occasionally. 

PRINTED ORGANIC COTTON 

(100% organic cotton) 


Just Dandelion Trellis, Hen Run and Chicken 

Check are available in a medium weight 

cotton which is particularly suitable for 

smaller curtains and blinds, duvet covers, 

valances and pillowcases, tablecloths and 

napkins. The yarn comes from Turkey and is 

woven in Scotland and printed in England. 

OILCLOTH

We have a selection of seven wonderful 

oilcloths which are indicated on the chart.

LINEN UNION AND 100% LINEN 

should preferably be dry cleaned to retain 

their crispness and avoid shrinkage. It is 

essential that the hand block printed range 

is green earth dry cleaned only, the colours 

will be dramatically altered by 

conventional dry cleaning.

COTTON should either be dry cleaned to 

retain crispness and avoid shrinkage or 

machine washed at a gentle 30 degrees. 

OILCLOTHS can be bleached to 

remove stubborn stains.

RUGS must be dry cleaned only.

Please ask for fabric samples before ordering 

your material. For larger returnable samples 

please telephone us. Whilst every effort is 

made to ensure accuracy of colours, because 

of the limitations of the printing process, 

variations may occur and colours may not 

always be exact, and please remember that 

slubs occur in all fabrics made from natural 

yarns. The samples you order from may 

come from a different batch to the material 

you eventually receive. The informed and 

helpful team who take your order also cut, 

check and send out your goods. Please 

don’t hesitate to ask them any questions! In 

placing an order we will assume you will have 

accepted our terms and conditions, which 

can be found on our website. All products 

other than rolls of wallpaper and rugs are 

non returnable unless faulty. If goods are 

faulty please notify us within 7 days.
