<strong>Make</strong> <strong>an</strong> Oce<strong>an</strong> <strong>Diorama</strong>!<br />
Before you start creating your own shark/skate or ray habitat have a<br />
think about the specific habitat characteristics that they would need to<br />
survive in the oce<strong>an</strong>.<br />
Materials:<br />
This is a good opportunity to re-use ‘rubbish’ found at home or in the<br />
classroom. <strong>Make</strong> sure all ‘rubbish’ is cle<strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>d free of sharp edges.<br />
You c<strong>an</strong> use: card (toilet roles, cereal packets, corrugated etc.), yogurt<br />
pots, lids (from glass jars, milk bottles etc.), wrapping/scrap paper,<br />
bubble wrap, lolly-pop sticks & crisp packets.<br />
You will also need:<br />
* 1 Shoe box<br />
* Crayons/paint<br />
* String<br />
* Scissors<br />
* Glue<br />
* Pipe cle<strong>an</strong>ers (for seaweed)<br />
Instructions:<br />
1. Remove lid from shoe box & place to one side for later.<br />

2. Cut away one of the longer sides of the remaining shoebox.<br />
3. Decorate the inside of the shoe box to look like it is underwater using<br />
crayons/paint/rubbish.<br />
4. On cardboard draw various <strong>an</strong>imals & pl<strong>an</strong>ts that live under the sea<br />
including your shark/skate/ray. Decorate & cut around them.<br />
5. Cut various lengths of string (Tip: not longer th<strong>an</strong> the height of your<br />
shoe box) for each of your swimming cardboard <strong>an</strong>imals.<br />
6. Glue a piece of string to each of your <strong>an</strong>imals, then glue the other<br />
end tp the underside of the shoe box lid & allow to dry.<br />
7. Glue seaweed, rocks etc, to the base of the shoe box.<br />
8. Place lid of shoebox on top & admire your swimming <strong>an</strong>imals in their<br />
oce<strong>an</strong> diarama.<br />
