Make an Ocean Diorama! - The Shark Trust

Make an Ocean Diorama!
Before you start creating your own shark/skate or ray habitat have a
think about the specific habitat characteristics that they would need to
survive in the ocean.
Materials:
This is a good opportunity to re-use ‘rubbish’ found at home or in the
classroom. Make sure all ‘rubbish’ is clean and free of sharp edges.
You can use: card (toilet roles, cereal packets, corrugated etc.), yogurt
pots, lids (from glass jars, milk bottles etc.), wrapping/scrap paper,
bubble wrap, lolly-pop sticks & crisp packets.
You will also need:
* 1 Shoe box
* Crayons/paint
* String
* Scissors
* Glue
* Pipe cleaners (for seaweed)
Instructions:
1. Remove lid from shoe box & place to one side for later.

2. Cut away one of the longer sides of the remaining shoebox.
3. Decorate the inside of the shoe box to look like it is underwater using
crayons/paint/rubbish.
4. On cardboard draw various animals & plants that live under the sea
including your shark/skate/ray. Decorate & cut around them.
5. Cut various lengths of string (Tip: not longer than the height of your
shoe box) for each of your swimming cardboard animals.
6. Glue a piece of string to each of your animals, then glue the other
end tp the underside of the shoe box lid & allow to dry.
7. Glue seaweed, rocks etc, to the base of the shoe box.
8. Place lid of shoebox on top & admire your swimming animals in their
ocean diarama.
