and hab<strong>it</strong>at. W<strong>it</strong>hout this data, accurately<br />

identifying the mushroom (and therefore the<br />

culture) will be difficult.<br />

to help amateurs in the field.<br />

Professional mycologists (although some hes<strong>it</strong>ate<br />

to adm<strong>it</strong> <strong>it</strong>) refer to these manuals also,<br />

particularly when they need a quick overview<br />

of the species complexes. Scientific monographs<br />

are ultimately used for confirming the<br />

ident<strong>it</strong>y of a mushroom to species. Amateurs<br />

should be fully aware that even professional<br />

mycologists make mistakes.<br />
